i was just looking around on the web last night and came aross this web sit... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/t.molnar/Obwelder1.htm, as u see the guy turned a alternator in to a variable DC arc welder. I was wondering if anyone has heard on this or see it done before, i think it could possibily be a good idea to have, i would like to have a welder but seeing as i live in a second story APT. that isnt possible, and normal on-board welders cost $600+, give me some feed back on what yall think and if anyone wants to give it a try, give me a shout

I'll sell you mine, I don't plan on useing it on the new engine. You just have to mount it and hook up a switched + wire. Its made from a 140 amp GM big case alt and is way more powerful than necessary. It would weld 1/2" easily.

Just clicked the link, it is the same one that guy built.

How bout $125? Or I might put a regulator on it and use it to charge and weld if it will mount in place of the existing alternator.

I'm gonna use the charging alternator to weld. But I should swap to a bigger alternator than it has for the fuel injection and electric fans.
