I know ford has divorced NP205s, but they're driver side drop. Did anyone else make a passenger side drop divorced case? I'm thinking dodge did a 205, but I'm not sure.

I think you are right aobut dodge's making passenger side drop divorced cases, but I'm not sure. I'm also fairly certain that rockwell made divorced cases but they are huge and old and very few people know anything about them.

yeah, I found out dodge did 203s and 205s and IH also may have done a 205. There are some old rockwell cases out there as well. Also, there is the NP200 case that came in M715s, but they are prone to burning up. Oddly enough in all the searching I did last night, I ever saw a pic of how a divorced NP205 was mounted.

not connected directly to the transmission... it is connected through a driveshaft like thing

It allowed manufacturers to use the same engine and transmission in 2wd and 4wd models. If they wanted to make a 4wd model, they just put the same old engine/tranny in the truck, but then added a short connecting shaft and a divorced t-case. No cost of engineering/machining special adapters to make a 4wd, no worries about sealing problems between the two, etc...

plus, it makes it easier to convert a 2wd to a 4wd. But because of the length its best kept to long vehicles or fullsizes.
