where'd you pull that at? If you got it at the $30 axle place, I wonder if its the same bronco me and jimmy saw up there over the summer. I doubt it though.

Oh yeah, those of you with ttb f-150's/broncos should buy this axle!

on that axle can you cut the coil wedgy thingys off and tube under them?

I guess you could weld perches on it. Just use some high nickel rod and pre and post heat.
I could get a set of radius arms for it if antbody needs them.
Jerry: not from there. that one is long gone and it was not at the $30 dollar place and they wanted like $275.00.

yeah you can grind of the wedges, they are cast in there but you can get them off with quite a bit of grinding, search on pirate in the ford section there are some people with eb's, and bronco 2's. that have done it.
oh and i think i got a set of lockouts for it if anybody buys it.

isn't this is how Austin SASed his truck? Went really quickly...basically just bolted into the radius arms in place of the TTB?

william_ace
03-20-2005, 08:53 PM
little more involved than that but, pretty much yes.

StevenAg03
03-20-2005, 09:53 PM
actually...it was a lot more involved then that and here are the pictures of it...

search pirate and you should be able to find your answer, but i imagine it wouldnt be extremely hard by swaping from the knuckles out with chevy outers, but would be much easier to swap to eight lug outers and a one ton rear or to take a nine inch to make it match the front would be the cheapest route.

Yes, it is full width. It came out of a late 70's fugly bronco like the Frik's. I don't know how hard it would be to convert to six lugs. prpbably easier to carry two spares...one five lug the other six lug :D

pray tell, what's so freakin tough about this swap?
The steering?
It doesn't even look like they moved the radius arm brackets on Austin's
Step 1: Unbolt/cut off TTB, throw away.
step 2: Bolt radius arms to new axle
step 3: make driveshaft work
step 4: make steering work (probably the most involved part)
step 5: bleed brakes
then start replacing ball joints (at least in Austin's swap)

They moved the radius arm brackets back a few inches so he could use 3/4 or 1 ton radius arms.

You also have to modify the engine crossmember and a few other things. Nothing is ever as easy as it sounds, or even as easy it is to type out in 7 lines.

doesn't seem like it would be that hard to a put a solid axle in most any truck, but I hear mazda's are a ***** :)

there isnt such a thing as one ton, or 3/4 ton radius arms, half ton, bronco's and f-150's are the only thing that came with radius arms.

The frick's right.

I could be wrong, but the radius from 78-79's are a alot longer than for the ttb and that is why the bracket has to be moved back.

That's it. Solid axles had longer radius arms so he swapped those on. My bad.

Nathan if you're gonna hack up that nice truck you should really wait until you find a 60 to put under it.

sure, I've already got all the D60s I can handle, I'll hook you up with the next one I find for next to nothing. Did you want driver or passenger drop? hi or low pinion? You wouldn't have a use for these mog portals I was gonna throw away, would you?

Mazda's are a ***** because there is no aftermarket pitman arm and the tcase drop to the axle when it is centered in the front wheel well is too steep for any driveshaft to make. Thanks, please drive through. :flipoff2:

yeah, you definitely squeezed a tear out of me there...wouldn't want to bastardize it with a toyota steering box (to go with the toyota front axle, transfer case, rear axle?).
That would be way ghetto
