It was an interesting trip, as always. Thanks Nick & Eric for all the help limping it out. Time for some new steering.

Eric has some cool pics that he'll be posting shortly.

alright members rigs is still down, so I'll post a few and replace them with links when the albums get up again. All the pogo truck action is on vids tho, so that'll have to wait.
First, the problem:

quote of the day by Nick (referring to Chris' trunion bearings):
"I think you're missing one. And by one I mean 3."
:haha:

Okay, I'm confused. Where the 2 arms just bolted together? No welding, or reinforcement? That thing looks scary. As for the busted studs, toyotas are known for having problems with the studs in the knuckle stretching or backing out and then shearing off when the arm loosens up. My black truck destroyed one knuckle because of it. Thats why I run the hex (marlin) kind of studs now so I can easily retorque them. Frontrange has a nice kit for it to. Checking them before each trip is a must.

I also hope you fished all those bearings out before you drove on that axle. Other wise you may have damaged your birfs

Scotti's 4 runner broke down? Didnt see that one coming. :flipoff2:

your pulled knuckle studs also happened to be concurrent with a nasty roll. Mine haven't moved one bit in the history of the vehicle as far as I know. Before or after the crossover steering. I've checked the torque on them many times (including immediately after Chris' carnage!) but they never move below the spec'd torque.
I'll admit some guilt regarding the knuckle, I noticed that one of the bolts was completely missing on Saturday, but figured he'd been driving it like that so it must be okay. Didn't try torqueing the others. For all we know one or more of them may have already been stripped or sheared before we left.
and finally, no we didn't fish all the bearings out. We unlocked the hubs and left the ARB off, and should have taken it out of 4x4 but I think Ugly would have had trouble pulling it if the rear wheels were in high range. Didn't really hear anything inside it popping. Hopefully the super longs are okay. Besides, we didn't feel like taking the knuckle apart :D

well it doesn't always happen. But the buggy's were all really loose one one side when I switched them to the new style ones. A few came out with the cone washer and the nut that holds the steering on. If its wheeled alot I would still check them regularly, cause as you'll found out its a ***** when it happens on the trail.

couple of the smaller vids up. The fun ones still won't load up. Is there an easy way to edit .mov files? Like clip them into smaller files?

eric, if you turn off some kind of auto-focus button on your camera when shooting video it won't make that annoying clicking noise. mine use to do the same thing until I read the manual.
