All Terrain Tire Reviews?

ive had BFG AT's and know they're good. i was looking at some nitto terra grapplers on a truck and wondered how they were. anybody know. what about other options on a good AT tire. im looking for something in a 285ish/70ish/17 tire.

nitto makes a 295-70-17-D. they may be on backorder though. I waited almost 2 months for mine about a month ago. I had 32" bfgs and they were ok. youve had em and know what they can and cant do. Then I got 33" Nittos and I fell in love. Nittos are better imo. They are less aggressive(good and bad), 1k times smoother,balance easier, not as loud, throw water, brake great, steer great. They are only a 2 ply sidewall. And theyre cheaper!!!! 17" all terrainish tires are hard to find. Nitto, bfg-285,315,35" km. I think toyo makes a 285. Some other brands have 33" for 17. Good luck.

cooper makes some, there's alot of companies that make 'em, not sure about 285/70 ish I was looking for 315's.

I'll be getting BFG AT or MT 315's for the rear and 285 for the front. Gotta give it a little FFA Flare else jimmy would be disappointed.

My boss runs the nitto terra grapplers, I think the 33" version on his 2005 F-350 4x4. He swears by them. I'm looking into a set; the 285/75R16 BFG KM MT's aren't fun for the highway. I applogize to them every day for putting them through the hell I have so far. But I keep telling them, I'm going to spread their ashes into the Gulf.

It sucks that, when I actually NEED the tread of a mud terrain; which turns out to be only less than 1% of the miles actually used the rest of the time (highway construction).

4wpw lists the nittos only $4 cheaper than the bfgs. the only thing i dont like about the bfgs is they throw a lot of rocks and black paint doesnt like rock chips. id like to try something different but id be happy with bfgs. ill look into the nittos some more.

i have a set of dick cepeck radial fc-2 on my truck and i love them. for an all terrain its pretty aggressive yet still quiet and smooth. they balanced real easy(took almost no weight) and track down the road as straight as before i put on the lift.

after reading multiple online reviews i have come to the comclusion that nittos wear out fast. seems the most anybody gets is 30-35k out of them. ill be going with the trusty ol bfg's i reckon.

What are you looking for tires for? My parents got over 70K on a set of BFG ATs and they still had some tread left...granted it was on lighter weight 4runner. Have a set of michelin something or other on now so they should last well over the BFGs and ride alooooooooot better.

Yeah, they're a great tire and hard to beat.

BFG MTs are good. They last a long time and don't throw as many dam rocks as ATs. Your tires should be enough inside the fenders to not hit the body with rocks with those wheels you have.

john, what size motor and what rear-end ratio do you have in your truck? I wouldn't recommend the 285's if you have 3.73 gears and you plan on towing. they may be ok w/ 4.10's. I have 285's on my burb and 3.73's and are great running down the highway w/o pulling anything. they suck when pulling. I wish it had 265's for this one reason. And this is w/ a 454 and all it's torque. It will pull fine at 75-80 mph w/ the rover behind anything slower and it won't be in it's torque curve and will downshift and or lug up hills. problem w/ pulling at 8o mph is everybody else is doing 70 in the fast lane and you're constantly braking and starting all over trying to get up to speed. real pain in the ass.

yeah. i anticipate that. its a 6.0l with 3.73's. im still not sure that im going with 285. if they fit well, i probably will though. 95% of the time im not pulling anything and only half of that is anything heavy enough to make a difference. my little boat is nothing. they'll look better and give me a tad more ground clearance too.

ive gotten a lot of miles out of MT's too kopecki. i ran a set on a truck i had for about 40k in high school and we all know high school tires dont last long. the scout has no telling how many on it. they've been on there for 5 years. i couldnt even notice the wear until i welded the rear up.

I like cooper all terrains. They just dropped the a/t that my family has been using forever but came out with a different version that is a bit more aggressive and my tire guy said they last just as long. We have constantly gotten 50-60k out of every set of the coopers all on fullsizes. They perform well enough offroad on a DD. I have the new style ones on my crewcab now and like them just fine.

my favorite tires were my datona m/t's they looked like bfg m/t's but they only cost 88$ each they were 31"s and the reason i didnt get them when i got 35's was cause they only go to 33"

I don't like the Nittos. I have a set on a f350 and they wear out too fast, and the tread is not that great. Go with the BFG
