I finally took the clogger's broken rear end apart, only to find it has a 3.00 gear ratio. Anyone got one of these laying around, all I really need is a pinion, a yoke would be nice too.

Price range would be in the trading for some beer realm.

holy christ karl, get 4.10's at least! I'm sure ron has a couple laying around :flipoff2:

Well, Doug, this truck is on the extreme budget, have you seen my wheels? If I went with a 3.55 or 4.10 or something I would have to change the front, I really don't think TTB is worth messing with. I just want something to get it back to bash worthy.

And Yes Ron has a set, but I can not have or buy them from him, he likes to keep a set of every 9" gear atio for "testing" on his mustang that lacks an axle, engine, interior, paint, etc....

Now I could do some sort of straight axle swap, but I do not want to waste my time on such a crappy truck :)

how did it do with 3.00's and 38's? I can't imagine it was much fun trying to climb ****. I guess it would do ok in low just to trash it.

ehh, there was not much climbing, mainly ramming! However if anyone has a TTB set for fre with higher gears, I can accept that.

are you sure the front is a 3.00? sounds odd for a 4x4. 3.00 was pretty common in cars but they are almost all 28 spline, yours should be 31. I have never seen a 31 spline truck chunk with 3.00 they have all had either 3.55, 3.73, or 3.90 gears. if the front is high pinion I doubt it is 3.00, I don't think they make rs44 3.00 gears.

btw it pretty easy to find a variety of complete factory chunks for cheap at swap meets, and way easier than trying to take apart all of that broken chit. I think I payed like 50 bones for my 3.90 chunk added a powertrax an threw it in, seems to work pretty good.

yeah i am thinking that your front is not 3.00 either i have never heard of a ttb front or any ford front with 3.00 gears. remember you already had that missing stub shaft, with a freeze plus crammed in the hole so you coulc have miss matched gears, you should jack up the front and find out for sure. also check fullsize bronco karl cause those guys know ttb and the gearsets for those model truck like nobodys business.

I've got a set of 4.10 D44 gears out of a rear axle you could have, but I'm not sure they work for the TTB 44. anyone know?

In true klogger fashion the best option will be to find a free chunk or gear set, whatever ratio its not really important, then find the correct sized tire(s) to offset the gear difference front to rear.

I thought most ttb's were high pinion?

the mismatch tires idea would work IF the tires were free!

Much to my joy, I have recently found out that in 1981 and 1982 Ford put 3.00 gears in the 4x4 F-150's, why? Because Ford sucks.....

Taken from Big Bronco History (http://www.off-road.com/ford/bigbroncos/faq.html#1981) :

1980: Ford converted the Bronco with the Twin Traction Beam front suspension. This front axle still incorporated the Dna 44 carrier. Ford 9 " was still out back. Transfer case was now the NP 208 w/2.61 low range. Standard motor was the 300 CI inline 6 (w/ manual trans only). Optional motors were the 302 and 351 cid V-8's. 3.00 axle ratio was introduced, 3.5 was optional. Auto locking hubs were now optional also. Bronco dimensions for 1980 were reduced by 2.7 inches in length and 1.1 inches in width. Body was heavily restyled with cleaner lines and new grille.

if you had a bronco that would apply, but do they say anything about pick-ups. 3.00 in a bronco doesn't sound that off, because ford probably didn't intend for the short wheelbase bronco to pull much, therfore the 3.00 wouldn't be that bad.

same platform? I would say it just says bronco on there b/c it came from a bronco board. I'm no Fordologist though.

that's what I thought but for some reason I just couldn't picture it.

This guy has both the RR d44 3.73 and 9" 3.70 gearsets. He's in Fort Worth i think.

He also wants more than what I would pay at pick-a-part, so he can suck it.

$60 and $75? Didn't think they were that high. Did you go to the for sale section? He has used R&P sets there. Sorry, I thought my link went straight to it.
