I'm posting this for jason. There is going to be a work/wheel event at 47 this weekend. You can come out and help cut some trails for a few hours and then wheel the rest of the day or that night for free. This will be happening on both saturday and sunday (no night wheeling sunday) starting at 8 am. Saturday night they are having a little party with a bonfire. They will also be doing the standard $10 entrance fee to wheel on sunday if you don't want to work.

i cant make it but if anyone goes, please don't let them cut any trees out of the creek that Feller and I ran

CRaSHnBuRN
10-25-2005, 12:30 AM
Yes, I've been trying to talk them into waiting on working on that trail until either me or you get out there to help. If they listen, I don't know. I hope they do because I think that creek is the best place to build a fairly challenging trail, but only if they leave the trees and keep it tight. If I can I'm gonna try to go out there with them saturday morning and discuss it at least. I most likely won't bring the buggy or wheel, but just spend the morning helping out.

if you help build trails you wheel for free whichever day you're there, other wise its a pay to wheel deal, and I believe only on sunday. I've getting sicker as the week goes by, and I've got a bunch of stuff I got to do this weekend, so I don't know if i'll make it out or not

so what time do people wanna head out saturday? 8's a little early for me, as I predict I may have a slight case of the brown bottle flu

briguyXJ
10-27-2005, 11:27 AM
8 is early, but at 10 we're pushin' game time. That would only give us 2 or 3 hours. Maybe some of you aren't going to the game, which would be fine then. I'll go whenever (assuming I actually go).

when you do this, it tweaks the body a little and the doors wont open or shut anymore.

Didn't see that coming... :D
Is that the reason your winch stopped working John? Did you never shut your truck off after that? The scout's sexay wit no doors
It was great fun, and while we did get a little work done, we mostly got to really think and discuss with Steve what needs to get done so we can be really productive next time.
Fullsize friendly trails: go to the extra effort to cut any branches that make your spine tingle as they scrape across your paint. A machete out the window works well. Also the little trees in the middle of the trail that don't get hit by tires, cut them and toss them to the side. There are lots of trails there that are "fullsize-friendly" technically, but just need a little extra work to keep the pinstriping down.
Removing trash/metal: Steve said we could use the trailer that he has there, and it would be perfect for tossing chunks of cable onto. He said we can just dump the metal in the pile with the water heaters. To come prepared to take out metal, we'll need to bring a torch, good gloves, straps that you don't care about (for dragging the cables out of the ground)
Signage: Steve showed me a pile of tposts that were donated, as well as some square pieces of metal for making the signs. There are a few cans of yellow paint for making the posts more visible, and he said he has a tpost driver and stencils for lettering the signs. We need to supply ubolts for attaching the signs to the posts and spray paint for the stenciling. Also probably a drill to punch holes in the signs for the ubolts. And 2 tpost drivers could let multiple groups do this. The idea is to put signs at some of the major trails and at some of the road intersections. Every sign will have an arrow indicating the "easiest way out" as well as "trail __" (numbered) and possibly a rating (1-5), though we could probably put the ratings on the map. These will be at least a 2-step job. First go out and paint all the posts yellow. 3 or 4 people working on this could probably paint them all in a half hour. Next trip get them in the ground, signs hung and painted. Probably a full afternoon on this.
Thanks to those who worked this weekend.

yeah, I've got some badass gold Rockford Fosgate connections for the amp on my stereo in the camaro. They would work good. Either that, or you could go to clamp style cables for your battery and just use the side posts for the winch. That's how mine is on the Scout.

I bet if you had solid tube fenders you would have made it. At least through the entrance there. They would have kept you off the edge a bit and kept your tire from getting wedged. A sledge oughta fix everything for now...

don't use the side terminals for the winch. Optimas were not designed to connect the winch to the side terminals and it will melt something inside the battery and destroy it.

not to say that this guy knows batteries from Shinola, but
"The yellow top or red top side posts should never be used for your winch connections as internally they're meant to handle only about 70A or so of the starter and you could burn the wire strand/metal plate inside that connects the side terminal to the two poles of the battery."

my guess is some jeep douche had a messed up winch and hooked it up to his optima by the side posts. When he went to use the winch and it overloaded and shorted out the battery...Since jeep douches tell all their buddies about how bad a company's customer service is, I'm betting Optima said, ah screw it, we'll put a disclaimer on the website.
