Well I bought a set of c.v.'s from Advance and got to work on my truck today. Well it turns out it's not as easy as everyone's made it out to be. After Robert and I were using a ball joint puller to get the knuckle off with no luck I called it quits and put the tie rod back on and drove to the dealership with Coop in tail for a ride home. They're supposed to let me know tomorrow if it's actually the c.v.'s and they'll install the one's I already bought. I hated to do it but sometimes it's just easier to let someone with all the tools to do the job. :confused2 :rainbow:

Separating any kind of ball joint is usually a *****, unless you have one of those press things. Most of the time its worth paying somebody else jack with it

Yeah they're different. I just got off the phone with the dealership and they said that we'd be in touch but that it might be a problem in the diff not c.v.'s.

Very original... It's not like the whole damn web hasn't seen that one before. Ok, so back to the subject, I just picked up the truck, the problem is with the t-case (np231) and I'm not going to pay those deuchebags 1300 to fix it. So now I'm trying to figure out what I want to do, I have a couple of choices, use my extended warranty that I didn't know I had, or pick up a used case and install myself, or scrap the whole damn thing and try going SFA.

You have an extended warranty? I'd definitely fawk it up with an SAS abortion then! ;)

extended warranty being a free tcase or how does that work?

Sharpe

SAS will lead to many bad things. Take this truck as an example. Like the pringles guy says "Once you pop the fun dont stop." This truck started life as a mirror image of my crewcab. Then he did an SAS. Next thing you know it looks like the last pic.

you can probably pick up a junkyard 231 for less than the deductible they'll try to rape you for with that extended warranty.

Are you sure it isn't a NP241 or NP272? You won't find the correct t-case in any junkyard for less than your deductible. It comes out of a late model truck, which means it has gold cast into the housing to any junkyard. Pay the $100 or whatever deductible and have it back in a couple days... And besides, if they have it for a few days you get a rental car with most extended warranties, which makes that $100 completely worth it every time I take my truck in.

I got a red Chevy extended cab stepside a couple months ago. Yeah... I devoted a drunken night of burnouts to Jerry and his old truck.

I'm not familiar with later models but I wouldnt think they'd use a 231 in a fullsize. Its likely either the same 241/243 that they used in the 90s or some borg-warner case, which they also used in the 90s.

I'm just going to take it to my dealer in Conroe over Christmas break to get it fixed, that way I'm not without a ride. It's no biggie anyway since the Jeep will be up here in a week. I'm going home Thursday night and staying till Sunday to finish it up before it goes off for the cage and steering.

robert my dodge is a 231. but it doesnt suprise me since the motor is underpowed, the tranny will go out at 90k, the tps screws up all the time, the dash is trashed, gets crappy gas mileage, doesnt spin the tires, pulls like a mother, wheels like a mother.....................end rant for now
