I'm fixed now negro, it's awn like Donkey Kong!
I would like to get better steering before then, and I did say I wasn't spending anymore on the truck until I got my own place, so....I'm down for a definite maybe....

Fredo
12-21-2005, 02:33 PM
I drove my shizzle to work today, and at lunch realized I hadn't gotten gas since driving back from clayton, so yeah, if I don't have to work and the midget in the motor hasn't finished it off yet, I should be there.

thats like two months away, there is no reason you couldn't be ready, demons or not (well unless the jeep explodes).

I'm in, I just hope that isn't the week before the first set of midterms

I'm down. Tate, I can do brakelines for you, if you're not in a hurry. I re-did the entire system in pigpen and got fairly good at cutting and flaring.

Sounds like a plan. I'll see if I can motivate the rest of the Sulphur crowd, if noting else I need a date to have my coils finished by anyway.

I seriously had to practice a ****load. I did like 2 dozen before I started making good ones. The secret is to mount the line clampy piece in a bench vice, and then when you clamp the line in it make absolutely sure the two pieces are perfectly flat. PERFECTLY. Next, I used a 1/8" drill bit to smooth out the end of the tube, since the little circle cutter left a lip on the inside. Then just make the flare slowly. Practice is good.

The suburban is rolling now and running great, and it will have some good proving miles on the new fuel system by then. If all goes well, and I have the money, I should be able to make it.

are you talking about double or single flares? i broke three falring tools trying to get them to mash a double completely. getting straight flares isnt the hard part, just having enough force to make them is.

Thats where the bench vice comes into play. The clampy part is clamped in the vice and you have a wrench to slip over the head of the end masher. Its not hard, unless you're a nancy boy...

I might make it also. You'll know when the Cruiser is loaded on the trailer and I'm driving out of town. :D

Let's see, the to-do list for this one includes:

- build beefier mounts for the anti-wrap bars
- speed up steering box/flow if possible
- add a few welds to the last round of upgrades JIK
- mount 3 YO shocks
- finish floor? overrated? :)
- fix cage? doubtful.

I can show you how to mod a saginaw power steering pump for more flow. I did the mods to mine and it worked really damn well in Clayton.

I'm in! I think between that an a little smaller pulley (if I can find out) I'll be in good shape. I realized in Clayton that most of my driving is done between 500 and 1500 RPMs, so I need to speed the pump up a little also I think. We'll see, maybe you're magic will make that step obsolete. I'll touch base with you after the holidays.

I think I'm in. I'm co-oping with the new Toyota factory in San Antonio this spring, so I'll be in the area. However, I need to finish my Dana 44, regear the axles, and trim the fenders. I think I'll be done, but I'll be pushing it close because I won't be getting any money until the end of January. I'm still trying to purchase a locker or two, etc.

yeah its usually a pretty big turn out.. i think they call it the "central texas club run" or at least they did in the past.. and yeah its about 3 1/2 - 4 hours max. camping is fun there when its cold but it pretty ****ing cold. there are hotels in mason which is like 10-15 mins down the road.

The biggest thing that sucks about staying "on campus" is that they don't have any running water. It would be much nicer if they just had that and some decent potties for the women. That being said, I'm still planning on bringing the Scamper. I'm just going to be sure I don't park next to the Grubb Taj and Vincent Generator this time. I don't think I've ever been there when it was cold.

Sharpe
12-29-2005, 01:12 AM
Notes: -the outsides of the porta-pissers are used more than the insides

-if you stay at the hotel in town, your jeep will probably be either winched up a tree, flipped on its side, violated by another jeep, or a combination of all of the above

-when we say throw a tent down anywhere, thats prety literal

-there is a windmill there that will eat your children

Yeah, I don't trust the south-side. Besides, my friends and family, etc., all live in the north. My apartment is pretty nice. It is $589 for a two bedroom two bath apartment. However, I'll be living with three other guys (being the cheap guy that I am), so I'll pay less than $150 + utilities (washer and dryer included in apt.). I can also get a garage for $50 a month at my apt. complex, but I don't think my XJ will fit. However, I may get one to store tools etc. anyway.

I am tentatively (sp?) in. Alot could change before then though. Its a pay at the gate situation, so I won't make concrete plans until I see this semesters school schedule and see if I get the buggy back into one piece by then.

I still have to finish up my new PS reservoir setup, possibly swap in the new front axle housing I've been building, and repair the giant hole where a chunk of my roll cage used to be

There's a chance it could still be Blake's current truck. I'm prety sure he got another Dodge, but I dont know any details. Blake has been in the houston/sugar land area for business so it wouldnt be too far of a stretch for him to be in CS. Yes, currently Amanda is planning on going with me. Blake is in Sugar Land and has not been anywhere near CS lately. He sold the old truck ('93 single cab dually) and got a 2006 crew cab long bed that is silver. He will be towing his Jeep from home and will see you guys there.

That truck may be associated with the WFO Racing car club here. Some of those guys may be up at the Texas Speedway whatever thingy for an event.

There will also probably be three vehicles with rigs in tow coming from Corpus to meet up with Blake for opening weekend. I don't know of anyone else coming from down this way. I had planned to drive up, but turns out I get to palpate heifers again this weekend and will probably be drinking that image away for a few days...

Short side inner shaft (knew this would happen and had a new one on it's way til' the guy who owe's it to me lost his rig on the highway don't ask me how this happened)
High pressure power steering line
Blew 2 beads

Still made it through Waterfalls with no power steering or front locker. Thanks again C.J. and Coop for the air and spare.

There's a burn ban up there in Mason so you can't have any sort of campfire/grilling. I was talking with some of the guys from texas4x4.org to find out where Oldgoat was to get the shaft and they said Rusty (his rig) came off the trailer going down the road. So he turned around and went home.

I would have at least stayed and walked some of the other trails, or rode with someone. At least tried to make it worth the time pulling up there. Was waterfall the only trail you did/saw? If so, you need to get your stuff back together and get back out there at TCC. Waterfalls was an all right trail, and that crack with the water running through it is kinda neat, but there are some other places there that are much more fun in my opinion (like the trail with baby hueys crack at the top, ridge back maybe?) Well at least your junk is out on the trails
