bwahaha, I sold mine (same setup) for $1900 cash with over 225K on the clock. Two weeks later the rear axle blew up followed by the engine melting down a week later

If you do buy that truck I might buy the tranny from you. I have a 2wd SM 465 I sell you cheap.

I'm planning on a 5.3 swap for mine. What's the difference between a 2WD & 4WD SM465? I have a spare rear part since my KluneV removed the need for it. It's the part that spans to the NP205.

On that note, I would highly recommend a KluneV and/or a doubler. I like the range of a KluneV. If I wasn't going to use a KluneV, I think I would seriously look at a Doubler, maybe even with 4:1 axles in one of the cases. The wide selection of gearing is really nice, especially in the lower end. I use the lowest 8 gears that I have pretty regularly on the trails. Enough so that I'm actually planning on mountingthe KluneV shifter so it's easier to go back and forth between them. :) I've never driven one, but it doesn't seem to me like an Atlas offers enough combinations to make it worthwhile.

I've heard rumor that a newish 5.3 with harness, accessories, etc. can be had at Doggett in Bryan for a grand. That would be a sweet mota! Just make sure you get a 5.3, turns out 5.3's and 4.8's are a muther f'er to ID from the outside.

the vin number of the truck is the only way to ID them. there are no external markings to differentiate the two. in other words be sure you see the truck it came out of. otherwise you'll end up hauling an engine to dallas and back for no reason.

I've also heard rumor that if you have a small flashlight or fiber optic light you can check the pistons through the spark plug hole and if they are dished, it's a 5.3, and if they are smooth, it's a 4.8....but that's just what I've heard.

I have heard the same about these 5.3s. Somebody in the club should put one in an offroad vehicle, perhaps you can be the first. TBI350 = crap, get good motor.

One thing I've found I don't like about the larger 4 speed manual transmissions. They don't shift fast. I like the NV4500 and ZF5 because they can be shifted faster. I've been thinking of building the 360 into something with alot of power, but jeep still wouldn't be fast on takeoff because of shifting. However if I threw in a 727 it'd be alot of fun, but I hate autos on the trail.

What do you plan on taking your jeep to drag strip?

Yeah, the throw on my SM465 really bothers me.

Cody, how much is a good NV4500? I know they're $$$ compared to a $50 SM465.
