Does anybody have one of these in their Jeep (and can I drive it to see what the throw feels like?)
what's the verdict on how well they hold up behind a 4.3?
How common are they and how cheaply can they be had?

Novak seems to have a good opinion of them, and I'd assume they would know.

I see them for sale on Jeep forums every now and then, can't remember what price they go for though.

the guy I talked to at novak didn't think it would hold up behind a v8, but wasn't sure about v6

The throws are good. Shifts just like any other light transmission. They hold up well behind a 4.0 which is a 180-190 hp I-6. I'm not sure what power a 4.3 has but its probably very similar. They are common in jeeps that are commonly still on the highway. And as with any good jeep part, they usually are kinda expensive.

i have one in a 2wd 92 xj that is behind a 4.0 HO, need to get rid of the whole thing, the front end is smashed up, but the tranny seemed to hold up fine, never had any problem with it

the I-6 has probably got the same or more torque as the v-6, and torque's what kills a tranny anyway, right?

i believe the 4.3 has more hp but less torque. around 195 hp but 180 ft lbs torque i think. i used to have an s-10

edit nevermind i dont think the torques right

Eric -

I am not sure if you are on the lookout for this but thought I would let you know in case -- At work today I noticed two s10 4x4s going to surplus - no idea how much they will go for or if they will even make it to the public auction - but might be something you were lookin for

no, what he needs is the nv3500, not the NV3550. The NV3500 is basically the same tranny with the specs you listed, but it came bolted to the 4.3 stock in S10s and 1/2 tons. And some of them also came bolted to a NP231, so he could just pull the whole drivetrain out of one of those trucks, and add the D300 doubler like you are doing and he's set

I'm going to put it in the Ugly truck, dumbasses. Twice the power and torque, probably twice the gearing, twin stick and only slightly more weight.

Toyota tough with chevy stuff!

The real beauty is I only have to use 1 jeep part and no ford parts!

Dont try to dilute the fact that with a chevy powerplant comes the title of a bastard of a truck.

my cupholders are from a nissan...it's already a bastard :D

maybe you should get some scout mirrors :flipoff2:

As for the crawl ratio, I'm curious of what it would be. The tranny is 4.01, and the D300 is 2.62, right? So what is a NP231?

uglyota
02-21-2006, 02:58 PM
2.72, so about 28:1 before the r&p (117 with 4.10) and can't you get 4:1 gears for the 300?

J Cooper
02-21-2006, 03:26 PM
yeppers. and you can clock it, twin stick and upgrade the input and output shafts

CRaSHnBuRN
02-21-2006, 03:29 PM
thats a pretty good ratio for 4.10s and just 2 cases.
