Dangit John I was all ready to bust your nuts earlier. The 465 has PTO covers on both sides.

agjohn02
02-27-2006, 09:06 PM
should spoken up sooner. kopecki said the 465 has loom-num on it so i changed my mind. i got no use for a box of gears anyhow. its all about bands and clutches...and black magic.

a really big, heavy, green, rusty boat anchor?

BMFScout
02-28-2006, 12:23 AM

chevsu
02-28-2006, 08:05 AM
That AA box is worth more than that. i think they sell for like $1600 new.

BMFScout
02-28-2006, 09:04 AM
is this the same drivetrain you've been trying to pawn off on me since I met you? I'd ebay it, some scout fag will jump all over it. :gigem:

chevsu
02-28-2006, 09:15 AM
thats it and i think this is a must have for any scout owner. so what you going to give me for it?

Fredo
02-28-2006, 10:05 AM
I'd give you a nice shiney nickel.....and a kick in the junk. I know I have no use for that drivetrain. :)

BMFScout
02-28-2006, 02:05 PM

chevsu
02-28-2006, 03:43 PM
give me a good price and maybe i'll think about it. i don't need it and don't want it. i paid alot for it so i need my money back out of it. :flipoff2:

BMFScout
02-28-2006, 03:48 PM
I'll give you $20 more than your highest offer so far ;) :flipoff2:

chevsu

BMFScout
02-28-2006, 05:37 PM

Doug Krebs

WTF is that overdrive box? Is it specific to that tranny? Is that a 420?

BMFScout
02-28-2006, 05:46 PM
dammit, now I have a competing party...

I like overdrive for my new blazer, what would you do with it? Maybe we can work out a deal in regards to you joke in the other thread? :rainbow:

agjohn02
02-28-2006, 06:26 PM
seriously,it might help for us to know exactly what it is. seems the only peeps that know exactly what it is are somewhat interested, except for doug, he's interested in everything, at least for a little while.

chevsu
02-28-2006, 06:43 PM
i'm not sure if the AA box is a overdrive or a underdrive. i sent the numbers to AA some time ago and they never got back with me. i just found it under a table and thats all i know about it. if the tranny is a 420 i might want to keep it. somebody find a high paying person for it and i will give you a percent to boot. i'm to lazy to try to.

Matt Conlee
02-28-2006, 06:55 PM
can i put it on pirate

chevsu
02-28-2006, 07:01 PM
go for it, or ebay.

Graystroke
02-28-2006, 11:47 PM
you could split the tranny from the bell housing and turn the input and watch the output while in fourth gear...that will tell you if it is an over or underdrive...this might require some work so I don't know if you want to do that.

Shaggy
03-01-2006, 04:57 PM
wouldnt an underdrive be after the tranny?

agjohn02
03-01-2006, 05:08 PM
either way works. 2x3 is the same as 3x2.

Shaggy
03-01-2006, 05:14 PM
but wouldnt it put more pressure on the tranny... thus wearing it out faster

Sharpe
03-01-2006, 05:20 PM
Hypothetically, how would 2000 RPM coming out of motor into magic mystery box and entering tranny at 3000 RPM be any different than running engine straight to tranny without magic box overdrive at 3000 RPM?

Doug Krebs
03-01-2006, 05:23 PM
If it was an underdrive it would put more stress on the tranny by multiplying torque, just like a 205 takes the brunt of the stress in a doubler since it's down stream.

If it's and overdrive I guess it should put less stress on the tranny?

Sharpe
03-01-2006, 05:27 PM
Doug' right, I didnt see the comment bout underdrive. Since IH motas were known as tranny killers why is this even an issue?

agjohn02

lets say its a doubler. then a puny 300ftlbs becomes 600ftlbs.

agjohn02
03-01-2006, 05:34 PM
but its not a doubler...same principal though.

The Ranger Torque Splitter is an auxiliary gear box that bolts in front of the standard Chevy, Ford and Land Cruiser 4 speed transmissions. This fully synchronized unit allows you to split your gears at any time. Just push in the clutch, grab the Ranger's shift lever, (You will have two shifters: one for your main trans and one for the Ranger) and shift. At any speed. The unit is available in either a 27% overdrive or a special order 17% underdrive.

they make one for a t-18 but in that case i dont understand the aluminum adapter for the d20. thats whay i say its a chevy trans.

Sharpe
03-01-2006, 05:40 PM
I've never seen a SM420 so I dont know what they look like but that looks close enough to a SM465 that I would venture to guess thats what it is.

Graystroke
03-01-2006, 06:41 PM
I thought an sm465 has 2 PTO ports. that tranny has only one.
I say it's a sm420 by the looks of it w/ the tall shifter housing. does it have three little cast in shift linkages on the top? should look like a roll of nickels cast into the top.

Sharpe
03-01-2006, 09:21 PM
Yah 465s have two PTO covers like I said earlier I meant I would assume its a 420.

Lots of trannys (http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmission_gateway.htm)

The snout for the shifter doesn't look like any of those

Fredo

If it's a 420, it's got to be a real early one.

chevsu
03-02-2006, 11:26 AM
i thinks its a 420. 2wd or 4wd before adapters?

eight
03-02-2006, 11:46 AM
420s were only 2wd. The adapter would be aftermarket, the the 420/adapter/t-case would be well worth the work of unbolting from the ranger and putting on the ebay.

chevsu
03-02-2006, 01:20 PM
well i might just have to do that or i might keep the tranny for future projects.
