After my fuel pump going out in the middle of the trail at Katemcy and talking with Jr. I've been looking around at alternatives. Anyone have any input on using a mechanical pump capable to producing EFI pressure? Seems like it'd be more reliable to me.

Also says on their website that no return line is needed, I'm not seeing how this is possible with EFI.

its called a deadhead system

they have a cartoon or something iirc about how it works on the site

1990ish f250´s had ext fuel pumps. They are not very expensive from the parts house.

The only real issue with a mechanical pump like this is vapor lock. You have to pay careful attention to fuel line routing and heat shielding.

Additionally, electronic fuel pumps will prime the system as soon as the key is turned on. This one will require a bit more cranking, although it probably will hold pressure better/longer than an electric pump.

Thats what he has.

I have heard that the ford exterior fuel pumps work very well too

its probably got something to do with the way you have it mounted too.

is it a master exxxx? I've killed 2 of those, they suck.

carter is so much better, more metal, less plastic. And it's heavier. if it doesn't work you can throw it at them.

if you've got vapor lock, remember.... pv=nrt

It was an F250 pump that I burned up, got it from napa and didnt pay any attention to the brand. As to being not that expensive, tell that to the napa in Mason, they charged me out the ass!

I wouldnt expect vapor lock to be that much of an issue with a high pressure pump, but even so I never experienced it with my mechanical pump with the carb

if you got it from napa, its probably decent. are you running a strainer of filter before it? where is it mounted and is it the stock bronco tank?

Vapor lock is usually an issue on the low pressure/suction side, not the high pressure side. An in tank electric pump cures that. EFI will be more susceptable to pressure variations as there is no fuel bowl reserve.

ive got one of these at home ill make you a deal on. i ran it for a while with no problems.

I already replaced the pump, I'm just looking into more reliable options for my new motor

Does that block even have a boss for a mechanical pump? I know some of the later model big and small block chevies didnt come with the boss's because they were meant to be used with fuel injection and in tank pumps.

I have the timing cover for a 302/289 for a mech pump if you need one.

¿What kinda fuel pressures are you running?

¿Maybe your return line is undersized putting to much back pressure on your pump?

¿How close to the tank is your pump? The pumps are designed to push fuel not lift.

On a side not spanish keyboards are sweet they have alot more buttons than US keyboards

Ç not sure what that means

I'm running the stock regulator, think its somewhere around 60-70psi but not sure

return line is 5/16 which is the same diameter as the fuel rails, plus I'm pretty sure thats what ford uses factory

Pump is about a foot from the tank outlet, below the outlet by about 6-7inches

I'm going to have to look at that block, didnt even think about that
