**** i would buy the damn thing if i had $1500
and i have a starter and lots of other toyota crap for sell if someone buys it
hes gonna get me pics this afternoon
--------------------------------------------------------------

My name is Travis Gardner and I have a 1991 Toyota 4x4 Extended Cab Pickup for sale. If you could please pass this e-mail on to anyone and everyone that you may think is interested. I'm asking $1,500, and you must come to pick it up yourself. The paint is a faded red that needs some body work (just a few rust spots). The starter is out and it has a very mild oil leak. Right before the starter went out I put all new tires (BF Goodrich 31x10.5 All Terrain) that were only used for less than a month as well as front break pads. Other than the starter, everything else runs fine. My cell phone number is (512) 461 - 7020, and my e-mail is travis.gardner@agr.state.tx.us , please feel free to call or e-mail if interested.

Thank you,

Travis

no I emailed him. If it's still around in a few months I'll probably get it. But it won't be...
fixing oil leaks gives you an excuse to catch up on maintenance of a vehicle like that. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Fitting a crawlbox to a v6 tranny is more difficult than to a 4cyl, however

CRaSHnBuRN
04-11-2006, 02:23 PM
yeah, if you're going to build it, you're better off trying to find a 4 cylinder, as the horsepower difference is actually very small, and the 4 cylinder is more reliable, and easier to add dual cases to. But at least its a standard, so its not a total loss like with an auto.

those are my thoughts, but it would sit at samantha's 90% of the time, hence im hesitant to purchase.....i think i'll save up for a GN anyway.

04-11-2006, 02:48 PM
if someone here does buy it, see if he knows whether or not it was taken in for the recall on the engine. I don't remember exactly what was recalled (problems with the head warping I think), but its good to check to see if it was done

J Cooper
04-11-2006, 02:54 PM
problems with the head warping I think

doesnt that happen with all toy motors

CRaSHnBuRN
04-11-2006, 02:59 PM
the 4 cylinder if you overheat it, but that goes for any engine. But the V6s had a serious enough problem with something (once again, it might have been the head, it might not, I can't remember) that they were recalled and quite a few got thier engines replaced even. The truck is still a damned good deal, but I'm just trying to give things to check on for the people who want to daily drive it

J Cooper

how was the rust he mentioned? what did the interior look like?

JB
04-11-2006, 07:45 PM
i didnt look too close, but the rust i did see was on the drivers door, near the hinge, and it had been ghettoly(word?) bondoed back. THe paint is really faded. There is some small rust spots kinda where the tailgate meets the bed side, but not much. My assessment is that 1500 is good deal assuming the motor and trans are working properly

Interior looked good for 15 years, really not bad at all

Excellent
$4,275
"Excellent" condition means that the vehicle looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. This vehicle has never had any paint or body work and is free of rust. The vehicle has a clean title history and will pass a smog and safety inspection. The engine compartment is clean, with no fluid leaks and is free of any wear or visible defects. The vehicle also has complete and verifiable service records. Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category.
Good
$3,870
"Good" condition means that the vehicle is free of any major defects. This vehicle has a clean title history, the paint, body and interior have only minor (if any) blemishes, and there are no major mechanical problems. There should be little or no rust on this vehicle. The tires match and have substantial tread wear left. A "good" vehicle will need some reconditioning to be sold at retail. Most consumer owned vehicles fall into this category.
Fair (Selected)
$3,300
"Fair" condition means that the vehicle has some mechanical or cosmetic defects and needs servicing but is still in reasonable running condition. This vehicle has a clean title history, the paint, body and/or interior need work performed by a professional. The tires may need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust damage.

Don't know what kind of gas mileage those older v6's get. If it was a 4 banger, I'd buy it as an investment and just park it.

anybody got carfax?

jt4vn13d4m5070329

i do know it hasnt had the head gaskets replaced and it has a recall on a "steering rod"

big rust spot/bondo on the bottom of the drivers door. top of drivers window and tailgate. no telling whats under the bedliner. clear coat is peeling pretty badly.

Fredo
04-12-2006, 01:25 PM
yeah, toyota clear coats suck. How bad is the rust on the tailgate and top of driver's window? surface rust, or holes?

agjohn02
04-12-2006, 01:25 PM
holes

i meant to take pics but forgot

agjohn02

also, it looks like the oil has been changed since it was parked

Fredo
04-12-2006, 01:35 PM
well, I'm guessing it probably needs a motor, that's why the "starter is out", but even if it needs a motor, it's probably still a good deal from what I've been seeing on ebay and autotrader

CRaSHnBuRN
04-12-2006, 01:37 PM
since it will need a new motor anyway, swap in a 3.4 out of a taco and add a supercharger :D

Fredo
04-12-2006, 01:39 PM
holes

i meant to take pics but forgot

Well, A new door can be had at the bone yard and it turns out I know how to paint, so I'm thinking I can make this a decent looking truck. Even if I end up dumping a grand in paint and motor work, it would would still sell for more than $2500 when I was done.

uglyota
04-12-2006, 01:42 PM
not every 3vze was included in the recall. Is it eligible for HG replacement? If it is and the HG blew and the motor's now trashed, it's not unheard of for them to replace the motor

Fredo
04-12-2006, 02:01 PM
from what I was reading, they completely replaced A LOT of these motors when the recall hit. From like mid-90 up the 3vge's were in the recall.

jerryg79
04-12-2006, 02:24 PM
I hope fredo gets it, 5.3 time :gigem:

JB
04-12-2006, 03:03 PM
so are we convinced that the motor is bad? I assume a compression test would reveal yes or no?

Fredo
04-12-2006, 03:05 PM
hmmm...not a bad idea!

Fredo
04-12-2006, 03:42 PM
yeah, we pulled the carfax here at work and it doesn't show anything about any recalls being performed...so I'm betting the motor is going to need some help.

JB
04-12-2006, 03:43 PM
do you need a functioning starter to perform a compression check?

JeepPhisherman
04-12-2006, 03:45 PM

Fredo
04-12-2006, 03:49 PM

JB
04-12-2006, 04:00 PM
John Cox, I emailed him again and he said you are going out there at 5? Do you need help trying to push start it?

StevenAg03
04-12-2006, 04:01 PM
in addition to the fresh oil, there is a new air filter, and new coolant which is filled to the very edge of the radiator cap. as far as the starter, in my opinion it is kind of hard to purposely mess up a starter. meaning that it is usually one of three things A) it will engage but wont spin, B) it will spin but wont engage, or C) it will just click. if you could hook up a decent battery and it did one of these three things then i would say the starter may be its problem.

also john said that he didnt want to try and start it without a full fuel system flush because water may be in the fuel. how in the hell is water gonna get in the system when its just sitting. especially since the fuel door has a lock on it.

i tried to turn the engine over by turning the pulleys. this didnt get me anywhere. i would think you could do such a thing.

StevenAg03

uglyota
04-12-2006, 05:41 PM
you can't turn a 22re over without really cranking on a 1/2" ratchet. I'd bet money that the starter is a cheap fix...the contacts wear out. If it's got a blown HG you should be able to push start it and run it a while then see if the oil and water are mixing. I would have bought this truck when it was first posted if I had money. I hate you guys. oh and lemme know if you wanna borrow a compression tester :flipoff2:
