Alright,

Lets say I have a really really good deal on a 97 GMC ext cab 1500 with a 305. The truck needs a new motor. What changes need to be made to put a 350 in it? I know it will bolt up and all but I dont have a clue about the computer and all that good stuff.

what happened to the motor?

I dont think the 350 vs the 305 is that much of an upgrade.

It burns some oil nothing really bad. 305's are gay

25 horses isnt really worth it, rebuild the motor and be done with it.

i didn't even know they still had 305's in 97 that should be a vortech 350

Yes unless someone did something stupid it is a 350. The only non-350 option in half tons was the 4.3L, and only barebones, cheap ass trucks had those. Find a new longblock or just rebuild the one you have. Vortec longblocks are the best chevy ever put out so I wouldnt replace it with anything older, although you probably *could*.

its his dads truck, it has a 305, maybe its a 96, but it has a 305 for sure, they bought it new

oh and edmunds listed it as a factory engine.

Is it vortec or TBI? Chevy introduced vortec in 96, but I could have sworn they only offered the 4.3, 5.7, and 7.4 as vortecs.

I'm pretty sure its vortec motor.

Its a vortec 305. If I get this truck I plan on buying a new crate motor for it. I just wanted to know what is the difference between a 97 305 and 97 350 vortec engine.

Most likely this little guy

I found mine cheaper somewhere other than scoggins dickey. Since you have to pay tax and shipping. it was cheaper to buy it out of state. I'll try to find the place.

Also plan on eating the core unless you're going to pay to ship the motor back.

I once had a 96 "Z71" with a vortech 305 and a 5 speed. It was very good at burning tires.

Like I said:

Scoggins Dickey is in Lubbock so you have to pay tax ($170) plus shipping ($135) plus the motor is $150 more

Pace you just have to pay shipping ($195) which will save you about $200 overall. You can probably get it shipped to your work, i picked mine up at the depot as you might remember.

Let me know when you're gonna do it and I'll make plans to be in town, i owe you one
