That would be a 3rd gen truck, Tacos are 4th+
you can call it a Hilux or Minitruck if you really want to, but it's definitely not a Taco
:flipoff2:

i had to get a new contact for the starter and a new battery. you can see the one that wasnt making contact with the plunger. the starter is making noise like the pinion isnt retracting quickly. ill attribute that to not being used for a year until it either quits making the noise or quits working. the low idle problem was fixed with a simple adjustment of the idle screw.

total repair cost ~$45 for the battery. :D

Yep. Just one was REALLY bad. Totally slick. You could see the softer rubber showing from underneath. One practically new. Two just bad. I've been holding out because I didn't know what I wanted to get.

still got the black beast. if the yota works out well ill sell the black truck. too expensive for a college students salary. plus, i dont really need a tow rig. the scout drives just fine and i dont wheel it hard enough to break it for fear of chipping the pretty yellow paint.

in other news... me thinks im missing a few starter ring gear teeth.

not abandoning my track record of long maiden voyages...

after driving around, uninspected, maybe 25 miles. i drove the toy home to MP. 225 mile trip, no problems, 19 mpg.

still havent totally fixed the starter as it imtermittantly does not work. i dont think its the ring gear though. im leaning towards some problem in the starter reduction gearing. ill just put a new one on it next week sometime. that will however, triple my repair costs.

the one I bought was sitting for three years and needed a fuel pump. pulled the seat in the guy's driveway, popped the access door, put a fuel pump in and drove it home. drove it to work that Monday w/ some injector cleaner and a full tank of gas to try and dillute the rancid gas in the tank. Drove it all last week, no problems. I do think however I need to change the gear fluids.

you guys are funny...
when I bought the uglytruck with 190k miles it had been hitched to a trailer in open storage for "a few years" where its only purpose was putting a boat in and out of the water. Got a set of tires put on and the following weekend drove it most of the way across NC and back (425 miles one way). About a month later I loaded up everything I owned and my girlfriend at the time and drove it to Colorado (1800 miles). No problems :D
edit: now that I think about it that was kind of stupid...I love what you do for me!

I think my engine may have a stuck ring. I took off the oil fill cap and there was a shat load of blow by! it sprayed oil all over the engine compartment and the engine speeded up! what do yaill think? poor some acetone in it or by some of those Restore pills? it has a 134k on the clock

robertf03

marvel mystery oil

agjohn02
07-04-2006, 12:21 AM
when i pulled the cap mine sped up too, but there is not a lot of blow-by. run some good cleaner through it and bounce it off the rev limiter a few times to loosen it up.

compression test? pcv may be stuck too

Graystroke
07-04-2006, 07:26 PM
well I poored some marvel down in the oil and cleaned the PCV didn't seem stopped up. i could hear it jiggle before I cleaned it. I'll do a compression test and see what it says.

agjohn02

yup, it was all in the starter. all the ring gear teeth are present and accounted for.

repair costs skyrocketed to $144. i need new steering components like idler arm and such. hmm, toyota said there is a recall on some of the steering. we'll see how much of that stuff they replace for me.

kopecki, did you take the old battery i took off of the toyota?

nope

StevenAg03
07-08-2006, 11:01 AM

kind of a preemptive answer....so you dont have to ask if i took it...

sure you didnt take it back to walmart? last i seen it was in the bed of your truck...

agjohn02
07-08-2006, 03:26 PM
yeah, its no big deal. i just cant remember what i did with it. im guessing somebody thought they were getting themselves a good battery out of the bed of my truck.
