not knocking them. i just dont know what it is that makes them popular for off-roaders. strong drivetrain? light weight? what is it?

lightweight, small, and CHEAP

I gave my brother two quarters while I was home last time, and he went to get a jawbreaker out of the gumball machine, and brought a sami back. It was the same color too. I think they call it "Boy Band Blue"

Is that :rainbow: ???

Yes from what I have seen they are dirt ass cheap and can be upgraded with dirt ass cheap parts. Their stock motors are adequit for their size, their trannies seem to hold up fine. I have seen a few fragged t-cases but hey, **** happens. Most people I have seen that go above 31's with them swap axles though. But with them, a D30 and D44 are upgrades. A couple of my friends back home have them and have total hard-ons for em. Plus, they can buy and cutup parts samis almost as easily as I do chevies.

about 60 hp with a carb that doesn't suck for angles. cheap. I could high center it and push it off. they're fun. get one.

I bought mine for $150. About $50 to get it running and driving decent. I have a pair of d30/d44 I could have thrown in it and the 3.73 gears in them would be an upgrade. Paid $100 for them. 4:1ish gears are about $400 and lower the high range too. Then throw on some 35s and wheel. Mount the axles spring over and cut the fenders to fit of course. For about a grand I could have built a pretty kickass wheelin rig. Or you can use a fullsize and spend that much on a front axle and it'll still suck.

And I've recently found that where a cow can go, so can a suzuki. But the power windows in the sidekick make it easier to keep from getting brush scratches, on self, not vehicle.

what years did they make sammis? ever with fuel injection?

tigweld

none are injected, I think that is the reason the tracker\sidekick motor swap is so popular with da zuk crowd.

i see.

plus its an additional whopping .3 liters. which, sad as it may be, is a 23% increase in size.

I really wouldn't mind having a zuk, I bet you could get away with rear steer with a 44 and cromoly's if you keep the tires under 35". fuggin turn'in radius of about 5',

Fuel injection started in 88.5 on the 1.3 liter. I think they sold untill 91. I think even with fuel injection they're still about 60hp, the 1.6 liter gets you 96 hp. The carb on them isn't evil. Its the most complicated one I've ever seen and has stuff like multistage warm up circuitry, altitude compensation, and fine tuning of air/fuel ratio by use of an oxygen sensor. The one I had was great at any angle. But a 1.8 twin cam big block has 120hp.

yes, ive thought of this. waggy 44's, pass drop front, driver drop rear. what year did they switch over?

tigweld

use a ford and get high pinion

tigweld
05-17-2006, 01:20 PM
low pinion chevy front, so you could put 8 lug outer on both f/r, run stock offset h1 wheels for a reasonable width

I think it's '80
using a ford for the hy-pinion would be cool, so would a rear-mounted engine and flipped low-pinions :D

Hey, you stole my idea. I came up with that about 5 years ago, and someday I will get a zuk and try it.

that would be cool but it would leave hubs hanging way out. i guess it'll be trail only anyways so put flanges in there and fuggetaboutit.

You could use a unit-bearing type 44 like the green one on the axle rack out at Gordons, and eliminate the hubs alltogether.

hmm, tell me about this 44...

yes, that would be cool all the way around, but im sure stubs would be a bear to find for them if you needed one.

that axle doesnt have a short side inner. i pulled the broken off splines out of it. it was a really nice clean twist and the axle was missing. also, it has pretty deep gears, like 4.27- 4.56 i couldnt do the math in my head, im dumb like that.

early 80's military dodge somethingorother. i looked it up once but its not something you'd want. knuckles, calipers and stubs are unique.

Yah spares would be a problem but you said you'd want aftermarket chromo's anyways. Do it...DO IT.

Mine stick out. It's not the end of the world. They're still made of metal. They're pretty tough.

There's a d44 in a ramcharger there at gordon's with slugs, but he wants $300 for it. :argue:

they are only unique as in you have to run the dodge knuckle, alot of late 70's early 80's ramcharger have'em, I had a set and was going to put them on my hp44 and narrow it to stock width when I was running the jeep pattern scout rear. You could put them on a waggy axle, but it would be low pinion.

what's that ramcharger got for a rear axle?
what side drop?

Eric, I'm guessing the rear is the stock chrysler 9.25" but I'm not too familiar with it.
