This is like October Trailfest in Clayton, except I switched the words around to make it more applicable to the events going on in Gilmer. The Yamboree will be kicking in Gilmer, might make for an intersting Friday/Saturday night. They have a ferris wheel and everything! I have heard hotel rooms are not to be had during this event, so plan on camping. I would expect 30-ish Scout guys to be there including the Brother's Brune. Last year Jason Kelly, Grayson, Davido (and their wimmens) were there along with Fred, Dad, Travis Pastrana (aka John Cox) and I. I heard Flem was going to have his OME lift on the Disco by then, so he should be up for a run! Andy bring the Sulphur crew along with that stripper pole! Nothing attracts a Yam Queen like a brass pole and red dirt!!! :gigem:

We'll be getting there Friday night, and leaving out Sunday afternoon.

Here is a link to last years pics: (Thanks for fixing it Dave!!)

I like the attitude of this years Binder advertisement:

*Edit- I don't know how I forgot The brothers St.John being there and almost rolling the TJ. Bring the Mog this year Ry, you know you want to! DeWoody would be your ***** coming or going!!

Not real sure what the plan is yet. Me and karl are gonna come in from Boremont and stay either in Tyler or Lufkinfolk on Fri and then show up on Sat. morning.

I think we are planning on camping Sat. night. By camping I of course mean consuming massive amounts of keystone in the presence of some tent-like shelter.

I am not sure if I am gonna bring the KLR or not at the moment. Sat afternoon I got in a pretty good wreck in my new truck. Jill and I were going to the ren fest in plantersville and did not make it. We got rear ended pretty hard and then got pushed into the car in front. Both air bags came out. Everyone is ok we are a little banged up. I will post some pics of my truck when I can get them off the camera. I think its totaled with damage to the front and back.

Just talked to him on the phone. Was at a stop light and obviously got rear ended. Said he hit the back of the seat hard first, then his truck hit an SUV in front and he went forward. Doesn't remember the air bags going off.

Said the frame is pretty much toast. Radiator and tranny cooler blew. Said the seat actually broke. If you look at it you can tell it's fubared.

I think this is old ford getting back at him for giving her up.

Make sure you goto the doctor! I had hell trying to find a real back specialist that wasnt a chiropractor so I went to a sports medicine place.

Shatty weekend for trucks. On our way upto the lake we took a shortcut that we had taken from 190 to 45 but not the opposite way. So we missed 190, and amidst a nice fight I decided to cut across the median to turn around. Got stuck in some serious quicksand action.

Luckily there was a wrecker driving by. Pulled me out for $50. My airdam ripped off in the process. Saw what looked like a battery tray laying 10 feet away. Got to samantha's parent house and realized it was my license plate. Had to go out of our way again to go back and get it.

It sucked, but not nearily as bad as that. That the new girl?

Hope your still in for next weekend. A couple of keystones will clear that right up. :gigem:

You should rub your belt buckle on it :D

4wd woulda just got me more stuck. As soon as I hit the sand the front end sank like 1'-6". I didnt try to go forward anymore just go back but I was backing up hill.

When I went back to find my license plate I stopped 3 times before I found my ruts. Seems 3 other people got stuck in the exact same way doing the same thing. 2 of them had burnout marks on the road by where they were stuck.

When I left Weatherford tonight, my trailblazer spun out at bout 40ish mph and went through a fence. The weather was horrible, bout 4 in of rain and 30ft visibility. The top wire went over the car, scratched it all to hell and fubared the grill. What pissed me off was that not a single SOB stopped to see if we was ok. I accidently left my licence plate there but a buddy is picking it up as we speak.

St. John, will the Mog be in attendance? Come on you guys know you want to. I bet you'll make it up DeWoody no problems this time!

I'm getting excited, hope the Belle is ready. I have to work two nights this week and pick up my friend from the airport Wednesday night. I'm putting on a new pitman arm, but I guess it's pretty much ready to go other than that. Need to find a tarp to fit to the top in case of rain.

Karl's Thoughts:

1)Stay the night Friday Night With Jones
2)Jerry picks me up in Beaumont around 5:00 PM on Friday, pick mike up, go to Jones's
3)I will bring the Bio-Dome - If it rains, I say we bail to Mike's, a light mist and the Bio-Dome is fine
4)Now lets look at the cargo, Mike wants me to bring his 4 - 33's up to Lufkin, I will have Carrie and my mom's dog. Also my KLR and Mike's KLR. What do you guys think about bringing my trailer for the bikes? It would give us a lot more room. Plus I could then bring Bailey's Kennel, which makes managing her much easier.
5)Sunday leave fairly early.

Yes, but before you make it to your truck and back to your camping spot you will be coated in a fine red layer of dust. When you blow your nose you will think your nose is bleeding.

Also, if the same rednecks are working the front gate you would be smart to get there 30 min before you need to be b/c it will take them at least that long to check you in. They will make your head hurt and you will have to leave the trailer.

I still need to strengthen the front suspension and shorten a driveshaft for the rear. Gonna try the 2" OD normal drive shaft. I think my good old thick driveshaft will still be good for a spare. Just need to put in a fuse holder and fuse for the in cab winch controller, I reran some circuits yesterday and ran out of fuse holders. I now have powered switches for front lights, rear lights, and rock lights but they're not hooked to anything. Also need to make some sort of a handheld remote for the winch. The reservoir on my new power steering pump is leaking but I'm just gonna run it that way.

If all goes as planned maybe 9-ish? The trails are mostly pretty short so we can plan on running short ones until you guys get there. If we get the camp we want it's off the main road as you go in. It is on your left just before the main road goes downhill by some trees. If you know where Houston Trail is, it's across the main road from the end of that trail. I'm hoping Andy or Kopecki snag the spot before anyone else does seeing as how we probably won't be there until 10-ish tonight.

Good times and good wheeling were had.

I had a rear shaft break while idleing around. Broke in the middle like last time. I thought they were supposed to break at the splines or the flange. Got a crack in the power steering reservior but that was before the trip. And the frame bent a little where the driver side coil and panhard mount so that's gonna be fun to fix.

Saw some high speed motorcycle wheelies while driving home.

Who?

Mike Goodwin's yellow scout. He had a broken spring perch that was shattily welded back on at camp.

Saw some high speed motorcycle wheelies while driving home.

is this possibly the side that has been re straightened using chain and a bottle jack?

Well, they cobbled that back together enough for him to drive home. About 30-40 miles into the trip home a bearing went in his transfercase. So we went and got him.

I had a great time this weekend. Shelled the front lockright and maybe a hub, have two leaky tires now, and I'm pretty sure I spun a main bearing while it was running on it's side. Except for the couple of minutes my scout was on it's side, I had a blast.

That wasn't really a side, it was the housing that was bent, not the tubes. And it was a different side than last time. Could have something to do with what's happened to the axle for the past few years. Doesn't matter much, it will be replaced with a 70 soon likely.

Good times. Sorry we had to bail so early, had to get home and do some yard work! Yeah!

PS there was some carnage in a truck stop bathroom in Lufkin that needs to added to the list.

I have seen that truck in Plano and thought, "My abortion should be able to make that abortion my *****" It was nice to have proof of that when he followed behind us on whichever trail that was when Fred and I both laid over on the driver side.

If it went down like that he wouldn't have come off as such a douche. For the record, I dig his truggy. We were commenting on it at the top of Sunday Cruise when he drove by, stopped, and said "What's up?" in his best tough guy voice, then proceeded to tell us that his truck was "all '01 Z-71".

Again, it's a cool rig, but he can't drive for shat. If you flop a full width rig on Sunday Cruise you flat out can't drive. Also, I don't believe for a second the clusterfawk he found himself in on "Whatever" or "Sierra Skyview" (where the brothers Brune tested their driver's side sheetmetal) was done in an attempt to see how sideways he could get it.

If he made the climb he said he made on "Weenie World" that's impressive. That ledge is ugly.

Ahh yes the tough guy voice, that would be the same one I used when I said

"uh, hey andy, uh, if you want me to like..get out so you can really beat on this thing, uh that's cool with me"

Oh and Darwin must be drinking on the job again, cause he totally missed his cue on this one:

No it ain't a closed event by any means, but it is an official TTR run so that means we get the TTR/Old NTB campsite, and if I am camping out there I want TAMOR to have the best campsite.

Though I heard the Rover Camp and a new Jeep camp is supposed to be pretty good.

I like wheeling with other people...:(

In the fall we usually just camp at the top of the hill near the RV parking so we don't have to beat the **** out of our trailers to get back to a camping area. It's what we did last time. Up on the hill across from Houston Creek. Works pretty good as long as it's not windy.

Why not just drop the Trailer by the Air Station and then drive your rig with your camping gear to the campsite? It is so much nicer to camp in the trees, especially east texas wind up on top of the mountain. Not to mention a bit warmer with a shelter for Rain, a good fore ring and a grill...

Doesn't matter to me because I will be driving my rig out anyways :flipoff2:
