I am headed up to Colorado Tuesday and we may be camping for a couple nights in the mountains. I have most of the gear I need except for a good sleeping bag. Does anyone have one I could borrow? I may not even end up needing it, but I would hate to need it and not have it.

I appreciate it!

I would say you would need it. I know the last time I camped in colorado it got cold enough for there to be frost on the grouund every morning, and that was in july. Are they very expensive? Seems like it wouldn't be a bad investment if you camp much

I don't camp much and they are $150-$200.

I appreciate it, but I'm headed north, so that won't work so well. I may just rent from TAMU Outdoors if I can't find one to borrow.

I've got a couple. I think ones rated down to 32 and the other may be rated to less, but either will work fine with a fleece liner. And if you dont have one, its worth investing in since you can use it as a sack when its warmer out.

Crap, wish they had that local. I didn't realize Walmart sold them so cheap. I was thinking I would have to spend $150+ for one at academy. If I can find a decent one under $50, I'd might as well buy it. I was just at SuperWalmart too - didn't even think to look. I'll have to go back tonight - If they don't have one, I'll contact one of you to borrow one.

BTW, the reason I say I may need one is because we may end up in towns/motels. We are wheeling from town to town (mostly scenic) in the durango/ouray area over 3 days.

Ok, I think my friend Ben was way off on price. Even academy's are in the $30-$40 range. I should be able to find one in town.

just remember you get what you pay for, there are also alot of different types depending on what exactly your doing. Synthetics are alot easier to take care of but are usually heavier and alot bulkier, down is in my opinion the best; its light weight, packs real small, but you do have to care for it properly or you lose loft which lowers the effective temp range.

I've got a few bags down here if you need to borrow, let me know

you can't get a good sleeping bag for $30-50
go to sierratradingpost.com and get a $300 bag for $120, it will be a much better deal than a $20 bag from walmart for $40
I'd lend you mine but it's here in H-town

Ended up getting a $45 10* bag with a liner from Academy. I figure it won't be that cold so the cheaper bag will be decent. It's a Swiss Army brand, but it's probably made in some Asian sweatshop...

I've got a sweet barney purple one my mom scored from a garage sale. I'm not letting you borrow it though. You're like Mike. Once you get that Mike Funk in there you might as well burn it!!
He shoots he scores!! Two TAMOR members, one shot!!! :flipoff2:

I've camped/backpacked for 15 years with a $50 slumberjack knock-off and now I have the whenger one cause my other finally had all the filling shift in it. Freakish cold November at Enchanted Rock, New Mexico backpacking for a week, etc, and it never did me wrong. Get cold? shove your jeans down in the bottom.

For someone that lives in Tx and maybe ventures to Colorado or the like once a year i cant see spending $300 on a sleeping bag.

Yeah I am will jerry. I have a old slumberjack thats good to about 20F if it gets colder than that just sleep in your long johns and socks does just fine.

Or you could be like doug's brother and sleep with your dog but thats kinda weird for me.

He just sleeps with it? Weird!?!

If you're not hiking and weight isn't a concern, just throw blankets on top of you. Not too heavy though as you don't want to smush the air pockets.

Also, if it's cold, don't sleep on an air mattress or a cot. The cold will come up underneath.

I'm not sure I've ever seen jerry wear anything except jeans.

yup that's all i ever wear. I'm scarred from living in midland where you couldnt go in grass taller than your ankle with anything but jeans. I used to pull my socks up to my knees and my socks would be filled with with literally hundreds of stickers. I ruined like 10 pairs of socks like that till my mom finally said I had to wear jeans if I was going in the fields behind my house. I put on my kickass rustlers and never looked back! :gigem:

So yes I backpack with jeans. Its not like youre showering anyway so you dont need to bring an extra pair just bring some soccer shorts and let them air out at night. Or just dont be a puss and suck it up with an extra 3lb pair of jeans.

a $300 sleeping bag that was bought for $120 will pack a lot smaller, be a lot warmer and last a lot longer than a crappy walmart bag. You could wear everything you own, roll up in two space blankets and wear furry slippers and stay warm without any sleeping bag, so what's the point of buying a bag in the first place?

I have a sleeping bag. Its black. I got it when I was just a little boy. Sometimes when its really cold like 30 my feets will get cold so I wear socks. One time the heater in my house broke and it was cold so I used it like an extra blanket. It is good stuff.
