I want to perform an u-bolt flip on my 85 cj7 and i have the plates from an 80s 1/2 ton dodge pickup that i got from a picknpull. But i still need the u bolts needed. I need 8 square u-bolts, that are 2.5" wide by 6" long. Does anyone know where i can get some, maybe custom made. Or does anyone have them. They can be longer and i can always cut them down. It's just important that they are 2.5" wide.

Orielleys has them or can order them. Same with carquest.

I know a place down in austin, which i happen to be going there most likely next weekend on the tech game, (which sux), but as far as i know they are the only ones around that make custom ones, and right on the spot too. I will call them and get a price and see if they do square u bolts.

Look in the phonebook for truck equipment/repair places. There's a place in Corpus that does fleet repairs and they make any size/shape u-bolts you need. They also have leaf spring retainers (to keep them from fanning out) for any width spring.

i'd avoid having some made. can be very expensive. should be able to find some in a parts store that'll work for you

Having them made in Corpus was about 1/3 of the cost of new ones from any parts store Help! section...

huh, the one time i checked on having some made, it was ridiculous. probably saw me coming mile away

This is the place.

I don't think they make them to ship, but you could at least get a ballpark price...

http://www.thecityofcorpuschristi.com/fleet-service/index.html

They have a BADA$$ machine shop with about a dozen mexicans and a couple of rednecks that rebuild brake shoes and machine drums for OTR trucks and busses. One of the wacko rednecks makes the u-bolts in a HUGE old press, then he hammers the fawk out of it on a cartoon-style anvil. It's worth the drive down to Corpus just to see this guy work.

Ruben's Fleet Service kicks ass! I've had like 6 or 7 sets made there and they are either a little cheaper or the same price as anywhere else, they were local for me, and they can make ANY size or style that you need. I dont remember the crazy guy's name but yes he is deffinately a hoot. All of the ones on pigpen are from there.

Napa always has them, and if they aren't in stock they can usually get them for you within a day. I also know of a couple places in Houston that make custom u-bolts for reasonable prices and have them done pretty quick.

I can call tomorrow and find out exactly how much, i guess you need 4 of them right, or 8? and is that measurement from the inside of the ubolts or on the outside of the ubolts? and how tall? But it turns out that i am going to austin this weekend, so i most likely will be able to get you some, and im pretty sure they arent that expensive.

BIGJIMMY

nm the dimensions, i just read the first post, but is the measuremnt to the inside or outside?

85cj7
09-25-2006, 11:14 AM
i think the measurment is to the inside, they are the stock spring width i just needed new ones that were square because the stock cj u-bolts are round. So my answer is however the stock bolts are measured is what i need, i would think inside width

bringing this one back to the top. I need to get some u-bolts for my front D60 and rear D70. Where are you guys with bigger axles getting your U-bolts? I've found a few sources for them online, but they all seem to want 70 bucks or more for a set. I'm gonna check at the part stores later this week to see what they have.

12.50 ea is as cheap as it gets for big ones i.e.- 5/8" got mine at BTF. yes, robbie, BTF.

CRaSHnBuRN
11-28-2006, 02:41 AM
yeah, I am considering the BTF ones, but they want 10 dollars more for the dodge ones, which I can't figure out, since its just 3 ubolts and some studs like the chevy stuff. Plus they don't carry what I need for the rear axle

Carquest is cheapest. I had a 5/8" ubolt from them back when my 60 used them. I think it was under $10. It was cheaper than 9/16" ones from orielleys.

Gooseneck trailer off of 21

goosneck is where i got the ones for the blazer, 13 bucks for 3 with nuts but that was for a d44, they do have larger ones

CRaSHnBuRN
11-28-2006, 12:21 PM
gooseneck said they didn't have anything that would work, at least on the D70. They were way to short for what I need. I still need to figure out what I will need on the D60, and go back and check on those

if you find them locally for under $45 each, i will suck your balls. yes, kyle, i will suck your balls dry.

bburris

Go to CarQuest with the dimensions. They can order them or they will know a place to get them made, and they won't be $45 each.

Then go to John's house and try to enjoy having your balls sucked by another man.

Yes, yes, and make sure you run to his house so they are good and sweaty. Hell, dont shower for a few days so he suffers as much as possible. :flipoff2:

well I'm not for sure yet, as I may need a block to match the front, but I would say in the 7.5 to 9 inch range. I think the longest they had for a 3.5 inch tube was 7 inches

agjohn02
11-28-2006, 02:44 PM
well, apparently on your third call to carquest you get someone who knows what they are doing. they have one of the size im using and can order more. that is if they arent too long. they are still ~$2.00 more than where i ordered them from and they dont know what grade they are. price is a wash once shipping is tacked on. ace bolt, the only place i could find them before wanted $45 ea for custom u-bolts.

i don't like that place. been there once and everytime after that, they have always been closed when i've needed something. so i go elsewhere

okay, where would be the best place to find the ubolts for my front D60? Were the places being listed above just for the rear u-bolts, or would they have what I need for the front as well? Anyone know what sizes I will need? I'll need 2 different sizes, one for by the diff, and a different for the driverside perch. I just checked with BTF, and they wanted 60 bucks for the things, plus 20 dollars for shipping

finally got my rear u-bolts from gooseneck. They tried to tell me they didn't have the ones I needed, so I argued with them for nearly 20 minutes before one of them finally found them.
