how hard is this to swap into a cj widetrack with a current dana 30? and is it worth it in the long run, i need to install new gears anyway in the 30. And does anyone have one and what is the price i should expect?

where did you get yours, or find it, and from what application, a wagoneer maybe? what kind of mods did you have to perform, example: shorten it, spring perch relocation, shock mount relocation, steering? you get the idea, i could use the input because i have no idea how easy or hard this could be.

Mine is going in a toyota, so it'll be completely different. The axle I bought from an el-whore member after he abandoned a project. Came from an 87 waggy. So far, I've torn everything down to rebuild it, with gears, stronger u-joints, new calipers, knuckles, and high-steer.

I found it on craigslist. I see one on there every so often. Other than that, you're going to have to junkyard it, unless you want to find one ready to go in. Then your best bet is just waiting around for someone to upgrade to a front 60, and snagging their old 44.

OK I started to reply to this 3 times. I could tell you everything you need to know, but I need to know what you want out of this jeep first. This would really be best discussed in person with beer.

This is how a project vehicle starts. Is that what you want?

what i want for my cj is the best street legal offroading jeep i can build without dropping another 10 grand into it, which is what i have invested already. I was looking at the strengths of dana axles that are easy swaps into cj's and i have a dana 30 upfront in desperate need of new gears, right now i am running 2.73 but want 3.73 or 4.10's is the upgrade to a dana 44 worth the work and price. I am runinng 33's but ultimatly want no bigger than 35-36's. Can the dana 30 handle the abuse i want to throw at it, mud, hill climbs, bassically everything highway 47 has to offer, i want to generally stay away from rocks. Or would it be best to upgrade now and spair the money spent upgrading the 30 if in a couple of years i will upgrade to the 44 anyways.

[pirate mantra]Hell, get a 60 and corp. 14 with milspec hummer rims to keep it narrow and wheel the piss outa it. :gigem: [pirate mantra off]

I bet you will be happier with the 44 in the long run. It seems to be a good investment for most.

If it were me I would definately upgrade to the 44 and would probably throw in the alloys for good measure.
