i have a 85 cj7, 1990 ford 302 H.O E.F.I engine, no locker in front, want a detroit in rear, 33"s now eventually no larger than 35"s, won't my rpms be threw the roof at highway speeds?

Yea it'll be up there. Plenty of people run like that. The 5.0 won't care, your fuel may care, but with the highish low in the t176 the 4.56 would be nice offroad.

well if i decide to go with the 4.56 i won't need your gears kopeki but i'll take all the rest expecially the open carrier, will it work with the 4.56 gears.

I ran 4.56's with 33's and still do, I love them lots of power and still reasonable on the highway even at 75 or 80

you have overdrive

I'd go with 4.10's

I didn't like 4.56's in mine with the v8 and 36"s. revs a little too high on the highway.

very true. i think 4.56s are a little much for 33-35s. hell i have 35s and 3.50s and everything works great, but my motor is quite a bit more powerful, at least on the low end. what do you have now?

the reason i specifically ask 4.56 even though i know they may run high is because of this

i think its a good deal if the bid stays low, under 200?

ive got 4.27's and 35's. in 3rd gear (1:1) it runs too high for my liking(~3000rpm). in OD it runs about 2200.

i meant gears. doubt it on the torque... i have 327 ft lbs stock and theres a low end cam in my motor.

get 3.73s or 4.10s. isn't there a carrier split after 4.10s?

Is this your only rig? Do you drive this thing on the highway alot? Do you drive it home for every trip?
If yes, than you probably want to stay closer to 4:10's and later look into gearing down in the t-case.
If no, then ****, put some 5:whatever in there.
I think I was at 3grand in 4th with 35's. Its not that big of a deal. You have to look at how often are you doing 70. Your going to spend the same amount no matter what ratio you get, so make sure it is a ratio that you are going to be able to tell a difference.

I've got 4.10's with my 37's, the 5.0 seemed to push it just fine. At hwy speeds ran around 2800 rpm with a C4
