View Full Version : What do you have to do before clayton?

Doug Krebs
12-06-2006, 06:19 PM
We have a little over a week till most of us head out.

I have alot to do, but most of the time consuming crap is unnecessary.

Must do:

Bumpstops and limiting straps.

Try and help the steering (replace pump and box)

Spring plates.

Unnecessary:

Hydro assist

Can't do much until monday after my last final, but I can take off work tues-thurs to finish it. Right now I'm just trying to get all the parts ordered that I need so I don't have to wait on parts or waste time trying to get parts.

-Charge battery and make sure it still runs
-Replace whatever is messed up in front axle (lockright? hub? whole thing?)
-Check Fluids
-pack tools and spares

Jeep is full of gas, just need to bolt the tranny cover back on and maybe throw some more paint on it.

The cheby needs front breaks, 44"s put on hummer rims, driveshafts, tranny and atlas bolted up and modify crossmember, crossover and highsteer (waiting on parts still)

Not sure, I'll call tommorow. I'm assuming around a $100. I just don't want a flat ruining our trip.

It's this place, they are on the east side of 45, about 5 minutes past fry's going south if I remember correctly. I have to go get the trailer first to get the bolt pattern.

I figured out what that popping in my front axle was. Upon looking at the lockright, it looks kind of odd. If you look at the pins circled in red, those are the pins that look like they have been sheared for awhile. If you look at the oblong pin holes circled in green, that's where the pins were still in tact....fighting for life. It's amazing they held on as long as they did. Apparently one of the two finally let go and that's why I could hear all the popping in the front end. I should send the lone surviving pin into Richmond for further research. :D

finish radius arm crossmember-same with this one on pieces already ready to weld-just need to drill some holes.
replace front hard brake line with a smaller one.
take out tiny stock rear degreed block

Made lots of progress. Jason's jeep just needs some cleaning up under the hood where things got relocated, hood latch added and the whole top thing was a mess.
We tried to put new top on his jeep and it was too tight to get all the way on. When trying to put window in we broke the zipper. So I pulled it off and stuck it on mine. I got it on all the way and went to put opposite window in and broke that. Zipper. So I guess it is just an expensive POS I'm sending back. Never even opened the box for the second one. Hopefully they can get me some different tops soon.
Tate jeep lacks driveshafts. Need antifreeze overflow that I trashed last trip. Some tweaking of shifter linkage after dive shafts are in and of course a new top. There are other things but mostly not needed before the trip.
Busa jeep got air in front tires today because it decided to not have any in them. I don't think I am going to bother taking it to Clayton.

Need to check out Lynda's Jeep and make sure everything is still OK from our trip to CO. It was still working when I backed it into the garage so it should be good. 12-04-2013, 03:26 PM
Well the only thing left on the Tate Jeep is putting the rear driveshaft back in when I get it back from being shortened.
Jason's TJ only lacks hood latch instillation and new top when it comes in (if it does that is)
Car Hauler #1 has new fenders coming in tomorrow some time. Old ones need cut off and new ones installed. Also have to fix a badly bent taillight housing
Car Hauler #2 is just going without brakes. I don't feel like working on it.

Let me help:

Relax, you're gonna make it!:D

You know me better than that BDR. Oh, and the Suburban is on the injured list. Needs a trans rebuild, tcase chain, and rear axle rebuild. The Brune fleet is in bad shape right now. You should see the planning board in the shop...there isn't even room for Mario or Chip to make a funny comment!

I guess I don't catch that one. Are you slamming me, or someone else?

You speak the truth JB...

I wasn't having a very good morning and after a frustrating weekend of not getting much done after dental surgery on Friday, I spent most of the weekend on pain killers and taking naps. So I was a bit down about the whole situation this morning.

Today I got news that the Tahoe's converter will be here Wednesday, I should have Lurch's new radiator tomorrow, along with the new assist ram. So now that I know when parts are going to be here, I can start getting some stuff knocked out.

Now to get all of that done so I can build my WTWE gift!

Jeep

-finish welding stuff
-put front axle back together - Done
-top off fluids
-change oil - It can wait
-build skid plate for the motor/trans/transfer cases -Finished it came out great

-doors and a windshield would be nice but I don't know if I will get there. Maybe afterwards, still need to run by CB and see what they have laying around

Trailer
-figure out why the brakes aren't working/ replace coils

Truck
-Change oil

Not too bad for this week. The jeep is almost ready to go, I was going to build a floor but it will act as my heater for now.

Now on to the trailer and truck.

Hell yeah.

I switched because I thought the rings werent seating because of the occasional smoke and was desperate for anything to fix it rather than tear it apart. found out this week it was the injector harness corrosion causing intermittent connections and ltft to go high, but the miles I put on it don't make expensive oil that big of a deal

I have the GN hooked to the truck and the Busa jeep sitting out ready to load. Only if I could convince the ol lady to let me go I could be on the road within an hour of getting off work.
