Looks nice. Are those pics with the d44 rear? 37"s look good on it.

colman
12-19-2006, 06:44 PM
anyone still in town wana help me with the body lift tomorrow?

and yes those are with my nt axles on it d44 rear d30 front, i just finished ordering my wheel adapters/spacers for the rear so that it will stick out a little more and look better. it would have looked fine if i didnt' have tj flares

colman
12-20-2006, 06:54 PM
had a 3" sitting around so i put it on to clear the clocked t-case and so the tires can flex a little

eight
12-20-2006, 08:02 PM
In the pictures it looks like the rear axle needs to go back an inch or so. Look like that in real life?

robertf03
12-20-2006, 08:05 PM
stock cj5 axle w/ flares at an angle will look that way

colman
12-20-2006, 08:14 PM
i also cut the body when i installed the flares so that the tires would stuff up in them well and i could get away with less lift earlear in the buildup. when they stuff they fill the whole wheel well. the only downfall is that it looks like the axle is in the wrong place at normal stance

colman
12-21-2006, 04:26 PM
here is the new tranny mount that i just made so that i can have a flat skid plate

Sharpe
12-22-2006, 02:13 AM
You crackum t-case adapter.

colman
12-22-2006, 03:10 AM
first of all the mount bolts to the tranny and second i don't see why there won't be enough play to handle the torque. so what problem do you see

Sharpe
12-22-2006, 11:14 AM
Putting the bushings on the ends of the crossmember like that does not allow as much deflection as a normal tranny mount. I just remembered my jeep doesnt have a t-case adapter, so I assume yours doesnt either, so it makes sense that it would bolt dirrectly to the tranny. I still think you run the risk of cracking whatever its mounted too but only time will tell.

agjohn02
12-22-2006, 11:20 AM
that all depends on the stifness of that mount versus the stiffness of the engine mounts.

colman
12-22-2006, 04:12 PM
i was going to make raised motor mounts this afternoon with a similar bushing. am i going to have problems. they are both polyurethane sp? and from spring eye applications

Sharpe
12-22-2006, 08:31 PM
Well I suppose if you got polly bushing motor mounts too you will probably be fine cause the motor mounts will be stiff as fawk and not allow much if any deflection, ask me how I know.

eight
12-22-2006, 11:41 PM
Yea you may be ok with the stiff motor mounts. I tried stiffening up my transmission mount way back in the day and broke a chunk out of the transmission. Then welded it back together and built a new mount that bolted to the case, mounted it softer, and ran it another 3 years or so.

colman
12-22-2006, 11:54 PM
well i decided to save the motor mounts till tomorrow and tonight to make my rear winch mount. the only problem that i see is that i need a hawse so that i don't always bang it on departures so the roller will go back to the front and i will order a hawse from someone

robertf03
12-23-2006, 12:20 AM
are you making your rounds all over town putting out old flames?

agjohn02
12-23-2006, 02:36 AM
you need a shovel to go with that axe.

fire axes have a pick or something on the other side.

colman
12-23-2006, 02:48 AM
actually i am going to put on a fire ax and a shovel that are both red. i don't really know why but it seems to fit. maybe i should change the name from the Duke to something to do with fires or something. whatever

got the warn 9000k winch installed today with the plate that i got from krebs. I also modified the hitch up front so that it will still work and isn't in the way of the fairlead. I still need to make some sort of bumper/stinger thing but that will have to wait untill i get a chance to finish the roll cage and see how much tube that i have left.

colman
01-18-2007, 03:52 PM
got the t-case installed with the help from a bfh. now time to fit/make driveshafts so i can get the city off of my back

colman
01-20-2007, 01:52 AM
got the tail lights, t-case, front driveshaft and the parts in to fix the steering and convert to hydraulic clutch. tomorrow is going to be productive
to do:
lengthen steering shaft
bend twin sticks so they fit with clocked t-case
install/make work hydro clutch parts
modify exhaust to fit with flat skid
cut and reweld e-brake bracket

call city, drive around block with middle finger out the window

AggieTJ2007

that ice looked like fun, make sure to be careful with the plastic windows when they are that cold they like to crack easily

colman
01-21-2007, 07:16 PM
well i drove it around the block today, granted i started it in gear and continued in front low in first but it still drove. now the city will be off my back and i can take my time

i have completed the motor mount lift as well as buttoned up the tranny mount. i also made my tbi harness and adapter plate and modified the t-case shifters along with the hydro clutch install and yj brake upgrade. now to mount the fuel pump and see if it fires up. i will get that done saturday. i may even be able to start driving it again. with that said i am now cursed and am going to get back to studying for my stat test

colman
04-12-2007, 12:01 AM
well i got sick of those damn carbs so i had to go ahead with the tbi that i had talked about for years so now it is in. made my own adapter plate and harness. i also finished my sliders/steps. now just to decide weather to leave the d30 or shorten and swap in the d44 in my garage

colman
07-09-2007, 08:50 PM
so here is the question... does the jeep still look good with 33" swamper tsl's and will my jeep's offroad abilities really be hampered as compared to 35's or so? i had 37" mtr's but those hit to much even after 3 more inches lift and i wasn't going to trim the body anymore... so i thought 35's but this way i can flex alot more and not worry about my d30 grenading on me, i could probably even lock it.

colman
07-09-2007, 09:02 PM
also the cj will become a daily driver as of the end of the summer so that also make me choose smaller tires.

uglyota
07-09-2007, 09:40 PM
44, 35s and lockahs. Otherwise you're just postponing the inevitable

colman
07-09-2007, 10:27 PM
i have a detroit in the rear right now with 4:10's so i could go iether way, so that helps a lot and i'm also building a cj7 that will be prety built up for the trails (360, granny t-18, d20 w/ 3.15 terra low range, d44 & 14-bolt welded w/ 4.10, 38.5's, lots of trimming and stretching)

bcolman
07-09-2007, 10:59 PM
i would say look for some 35's but that is just me.

how does the tbi run? Is that air filter permanent?

colman
07-10-2007, 12:04 AM
the 2 chips that i have for the tbi are not correct. one is rich(default mode) and one is lean so i need to send back the one that i had made and get a good one. even with those 2 problems it still runs better than any carb i ever had. and no that air filter/intake is not permanent, the clearance between the brake booster/mc(from a yj) and the tb is to close for anything that i could find on the market so i made one from ac tin for a house. as soon as i find a sutable replacement it will go on. bit on the bright side that K&N that i wrote on with a sharpe adds at least 10 HP and i still have a K&N filter on the end

colman
07-10-2007, 12:06 AM
i'll post a better picture tomorrow so that the *****ing and flaming can go as scheduled

BMFScout
07-10-2007, 12:15 AM
I just realized that wasn't a 304 or 360, that's cool. Get the tbis set up right and don't look back. It can be a paint to get set up right, but it's so worth it.

colman
07-10-2007, 12:53 AM
i am also going to tbi the 360 that is going into the cj7 on steroids. should be fun

the 5 or the 7? the 7 has a 360 goint into it. if you have a 401 sitting around i would love to drop it in and get it out of your way

the 2 chips that i have for the tbi are not correct. one is rich(default mode) and one is lean so i need to send back the one that i had made and get a good one.

how do you know its running rich or lean? is the "lean" one the chip I did?

colman
07-11-2007, 03:41 PM
the one you made for me is not putting enough fuel into the system and the motor is starved and the other chip is not recognised by the computer so it puts it in limp home mode. ideally i need to find a tried and proven .bin file somewhere on the net and try to get you to burn me another one

robertf03
07-11-2007, 04:19 PM

colman
07-11-2007, 10:31 PM
yes those are the tires from the sami, they are for sale with the rims for 600 firm according to jordan. i really really want tsl's but i'm going to have to hold out for 35's

when i was crusing at constant speed the motor would start to die like it wasn't getting enough fuel and during acceleration it was ok. when i switched chips then it was better. also the chip you made for me was for a different motor. i'm really not sure to tell the truth. if you want to come check it out now that you are in town you are more than welcome. i have cold beer waiting for you

well i got sick of not wheeling so i pulled the cj out of storage. got a new tbi adapter and a non ghetto ebay special red air filter assembly, replaced the rear shocks, retubed the rear pretzeled drive shaft and still need to redo the tube on the front shaft. the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced so i did that but still need to order an adjustable push rod for the booster so i can make the brakes firmer. i then replaced the stock crappy steering box mount that was cracked with a hd unit and added a steering box brace. Flem has agreed to come over tuesday afternoon to help me finally tune up the efi and get it running right so after that it should be good to go. lots of little problems left but it should be wheelable. just in time for spring break

played with the jeep this weekend. went to south texas hunting/ bachelor party and got my first javelina. about 70 lbs. It's good to see the jeep back in action and i'm going to register it as an antique after the new year and start driving it around houston.

Never got around to redoing the tbi so to get it reliable I've ordered a 38/38 weber carb for the time being which will work nicely with my 4.0 head and hei. Putting the beadlocks and tsl's back on it and making a front driveshaft and spare. Should be loading trailer friday morning and heading out Friday afternoon when Brian gets off work.

Time to step up a bit

82 Scout 44s) spooled front/rear, 5.38s, alloy USA inners, new Yukon outers, warn hubs with 3 or 4 spare hubs, spare stock inner/outer fronts and 6 rear shafts, bronco rotors, Chevy calipers, 2.5x8 PSC ram, front Clayton 3 link, double triangulated rear.

Also full psc hydro ram and air shocks rear and some serious wb modifications

I'm getting an orbital, lines and fittings and rear air shocks from scott so i belive i have everything i need to go linked and hydro.

All my current springs are trashed and most of the mounting points and a few cracks in the frame. I have been running the same suspension since hs. Time for an upgrade

yes i know 60s would have been nice but these are set up ready to go and end up costing 1/3 and i'm keeping my 36's and have a spare set of front chromo stubs laying around beyond the ones i just bought so i'm guessing i will be ok. I do have a detroit in the old d44 in the rear of the cj i could swap in if i decide i don't like one of the spools.
