I took a week off work and went to Colorado to enjoy some nice weather. I really should have waited a few weeks because most of the scenic trails still had snow drifts across them near the top. I hit Big Bend on the way out there, which sucked, then to Pagosa Springs, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, Crested Butte, and a few other places along the way. I did not get to many pictures, but here are a few....

big bend just didn't have the scenery that CO did and it was raining....and it was in the absolute middle of nowhere.

No Lake City? That is my personal favorite town up there on the alpine loop... I am headed up there weekend after july 4th

Yeah, I went through Lake City while doing the Alpine loop.

Imogene, Poughkeepsie, Lake Como Trail, and California still had snow. It SUCKED getting almost to the top of these passes and finding like one snow drift maybe 20 ft long, but 2-3ft deep, keeping me from continueing on. Backing up was not fun either.

I love that trip. Silverton, Ouray, and Lake City are some pretty nice places. We're going to do that again someday...

I think we started hitting the trails in that area around page 14...

Telluride is pretty yuppy and appears to be filled with rich Texas people with vaction houses and hippy green Colorado 20 somethings working for them. I pulled over in town there on my way out to buy a $6 burrito and apparently was in the way of some construction. I asked the guy how far forward I needed to move my truck to clear the equipment and he said to move it back to Texas. I smiled and told him we Texans owned his little state. :D

not really - I just try to respect their state as much as I respect our state. It's beautiful up there and if I grew up there and saw the change I would be upset too.

we're not the ones putting slot machines in every little nice old mining town up there. you cant drive down the main street of any of those towns without hearing dingdingdingdingding. they are the ones putting their state in the crapper. if it werent for Texans pumping money into that place the roads would be lined with slot machines. how many coloraydans do you think spend money in those small towns that dont live there?

how is it that Texans are changing the state in your opinion?

I hear waht your saying about respecting them, and I try to be nice and cool with them, it jsut seems like there is always a pompous attitude with the majority of locals

I had a buddy that was a ski lift jockey for a couple of winters. He's from Illinois, mind you. Talk about a bunch of instant cross the state line and think they're the most hardcore thing on snow or tires but also peace loving stoner hippies (but I digress) So he's all badass since he lives in Colorado now and tells me that, working the ski lifts, you can pick a Texan out from a mile away, because they're the ones all rowdy, making a bunch of noise (having a good time)...so I tell him that during winter break, probably 50-75% of the skiiers at Colorado resorts are from Texas, and he can only pick out those 5 or 10? Not to mention that those really rowdy ones are probably from Arkansas or Mississippi and just wish they were Texan. Living in Colorado you can't be prejudiced based on color or religion because everybody's white and nobody goes to church, besides it wouldn't be very Coloradoan...so you hate Texas

The change to the state isn't just from us - and it's not the tourists fault. It's a natural thing - just like Houston expanding. I'm just saying that if I grew up there when it wasn't as busy and touristy I would wish it were like the slower "cheaper" good'ol days.

I don't care about transplants that have been there for less than 10 years.

I have only seen one casino in CO, somewhere near Boulder, everyting else seems pretty nice.

It's kind of like what's happening in Austin w/ all the Komifornians moving in there, only the other 98% of Texans could care less what goes on in the capitol as long as the taxes don't get raised.

there might be a trail there that you can't see - otherwise I would've said something. I expect better and assume the best, I'm sure he's on a trail.

Back on subject, Durango is a pretty kickass town. I guess the FabFours guys like it there? I followed some old guys in CJs down some pass and ate lunch with them at the base and they gave me some contacts that are in Durango.

Durango won't let them build a bigger shop and it isn't the best place for manufacturing and shipping - so they are moving I guess. He'll be closer to Shipman now...

BTW - Greg, Rose, and the kiddo will be staying here at my place this weekend. They have a wedding to go to on Saturday, they are going to try and get here by Thursday night.
