Depending on how things pan out, i might skip the football game that weekend. It's Louisiana-Monroe, and that will be 3 games in a row.

Once it gets a little closer we can figure something out.

I've been talking to some of the organizers via pirate and am planning on judging at the event. I told them I might have some other folks interested in helping out too. They need about 10 more secondary judges (little experience required, if you have more experience or can BS well there may be more primary openings). Obviously you get in free for the full weekend, and they are also talking about giving all judges free hotel rooms and possibly covering some/all food & drink for the weekend. This is a 2 day commitment so you need to plan on being there early for both Saturday & Sundsy. If you are interested, post up, email me your contact info if I don't have it already and I will send a list of volunteers over to the event organizers in the next week or so. If I don't know you, include a little bit about your wheeling experience.

Mike and Karl, yall should bring your dirt bikes down and we can go ride on sat. morning. It finally dried out enough to check out the powerline by my house and it looks pretty cool. They've paved the streets back there so its easy to get to and you dont have to be out in the open like before. According to map quest the powerline goes all the way to jesse jones park in humble. I rode on my bike for a good 20 minutes and got up on a hill and didnt see any end in sight.

I'd even be up for riding it next sun. the 19th.

This is going to be greatness. According to the Spring Creek Offroad forum, they will be running the mudbogs sat. night after the Rock Crawling. The people watching should be exquisite.

it was all sprayed in shotcrete so its rock walls not boulders. There is a thread in the competition thread of pirate that shows the course.

jerryg79

yeah it has a "rock" course. Some of the stuff looked pretty cool. Alot of people were excited about it. The only problem i see is rednecks with huge bumpers ramming the gunnite and busting it up as it only has chainlink for reinforcment.

For more elaboration...

Shotcrete vs. gunite
Shotcrete is today an all-inclusive term that describes spraying concrete or mortar with either a dry or wet mix process. However, it may also sometimes be used to distinguish from gunite as a wet-mix. The term shotcrete was first defined by the American Railway Engineers Association (AREA) in the early 1930s.[2] By 1951, shotcrete had become the official generic name of the sprayed concrete process. [2]

Gunite refers only to the dry-mix process, in which the dry cementitious mixture is blown through a hose to the nozzle, where the water is injected immediately prior to application. Gunite was the original term coined by Akeley, and trademarked in 1909, patented in North Carolina. The concrete is blasted by pneumatic pressure from a gun, hence "gun"-ite.

The term "Gunite" became the registered trade mark of Allentown the oldest manufacturer of gunite equipment. Other manufacturers were thus compelled to use other terminology to describe the process such as shotcrete, pneumatic concrete, guncrete, etc. Shotcrete emerged as the most commonly used term after gunite and after the later development of the wet process came to used be for both methods.
