Just in case some of you were wondering, I bought stevens waggy. Finally tired of not having something to really wheel. And finally talked myself out of a unibody. I will be keeping all of my junk that has been aquired. Main reason for getting this was something that is wheelable and driveable without any major problems. And its already been broken in!
Plans are SLOWLY build it. I want to finish rebuilding parts and gathering parts. Im going to leave it like it is for a while.

Current projects:
Sliders
front bumper
maybe rear w/ tire carrier
PS box
speakers
Fix minor stuff/TLC
minute trimming
storage inside

I want to replace the big tank underneath with a fuel cell inside. There will still be room for 4 people. I need to look into carbs also. Springover wont come for a while, I need to read up on the ps box issues these things have with a springover. Just rear aussie right now.

Got a little question here. Is usefullness better than looks? The way I want to work the rear bumper is below. 4X2 Rec tube flat on top of bumper to be flush with rear panel. I dont want to weld it flat on the side of the bumper because I will have a 2 inch gap between the tube and the panels. I didnt raise the bumper(even with the panels) because the frame would still be hanging out anyway, and not ready for the dovetail look just yet.

Ghey?

I'm not following on your question. Why can't it work and be clean looking?

On your lights, I would just mount them in your grille where they'll be protected. I wouldn't put them in your bumper. They'll just end up getting smashed. The other thing I might do is top mount them on the bumper so that they're not on the edge. I would have to see that gap on the ends in person with the light, but you have several options. Lots of openings around the grille area.

You might also run some straps over the front welds if it's not really supported from the rear. Check out a pic of Fred's front bumper for a better explanation. I've seen a few of those types of bumper break at the weld with a good hit (since the welds were grinded down for good looks). Just a thought.

Keep up the good work. Don't forget to weld your diffs and get a gas cap. :) For a budget fix, you could try just moving your current tank inside. I've seen it with TJs where they put them in the back of the tub instead of underneath. Stock tanks. $0. You could probably even keep the current fill hole with a little working. Just throw a sheet over it and roll down the windows when you get it inspected.

texasxj
01-14-2008, 08:37 AM
Thanks Ed.

Im still going to cut some plate to reinforce the bends.

Ok back to the rear. Rear hangs 2'' below the body line. The 4x2 is as the picture shows. The fender guards will be the same 4x2 Rec tube layed flat on top of the bumper, stick out about 1/2 '' from the body line, the rest is under the body. (3.5'')

DRAGOONRANCH
01-14-2008, 09:00 AM
What is that piece that is attached to the right side of the black 4x2? Is that the frame? If it is, I don't see why what you are planning won't work.

Otherwise I broke a front driveshaft, lost some paint, gained some dents, ran out of gas/sending unit problems, and had lots of carb trouble. Tested the jeep out fairly well on the backside of slims slope, If my carb wasnt constantly flooding out I would have probably done better.

So I got a new addition thanks to BDR. I want to do a removable reciever hitch setup for the winch.

JB-didnt you make one or buy one?

I was thinking of 8/10" channel for the bottom, notching it for 2" ST which would slide into reciever. Does the fairlead take a lot of pressure from the cable sliding on it? As in how strong does some plate need to be where the fairlead would be bolted to?

Ive got other ideas about moving bumper forward, making new bumper.

JB
03-11-2009, 07:46 PM
I had a winch carrier from the used 9500XP I bought off craigslist. That winch is now inside the Bronco bumper and the cheapo ****tybuilt 8000 is on the carrier, being swapped between teh F150, Bronco, trailer, ZJ.

mudtoy67
03-11-2009, 09:29 PM
I used a 1/4" plate to mount the winch with a 90 deg break on front to mount the fairlead. This was welded to a 2x4x3/16 bumper. I generally don't care for the receiver mount setup. It's convenient, but if you pull at steep angles you can bend the receiver tube. A setup like Doug's blazer with two receivers to distribute the load would be better.

90wt gear oil.

From what I have read, running a stock inline tbi pump fuel pressure should be set between 13-14psi. Do you have a fp gauge? 0-30psi inline gauges are fairly cheap (bought mine for around $20). I would run a regulator for fine tuning but you might not need it depending on your pump's psi output.

What trans is in an 82 chevy 6.2 cab and chassis auto 2wd? TH400? Besides tailshaft change, adaptability to what? Going to be pulling misc stuff for cores before truck goes to BIM. Alternator work on AMC 360?

Sharpe, this 6.2 is up for grabs......

Anybody need any panels or anything let me know. Stuff will be cheap.

the jeep and teh chevy t400 have different bolt patterns. internals are the same but the cases are different

If its a CS series alternator it'll fit on an AMC with a little grinding.

texasxj

It has a title. Nothing exciting for a while. Its in good enough shape (in my opinion) to turn it into a cruiser/extra vehicle. I was going to part it out but after really going through it, I really havent decided.

Anybody know how much slack is to much in a np 229 chain?

Having problems with it shifting in high or not shifting rather. Chain grabs and then pops off or slips, works fine in low. Going to check linkage adjustment first.
