see big nasty thread for clayton body damage possibilities,

as for the leaves in the rear take out whatever huge lift block that is back there im asuming, then take a set of rear leaf spring front hangers and use them as the rear leaf spring hanger to give about 4-5.5 inches of lift depending on where you weld or bolt the hangers to, and it will give good flex. The front i would prolly try and find some stock springs off of something that are the same width and length as your current front springs and run those, or fab a set of the chevy 52's that clarke and cook are using.

Narrow the front like i did to my truck, heck ill give you the narrowed hood off big nasty for it. It only took me like a weekend worths the work to do this minus cutting and rewelding the hood, and could be done faster if you dont really care about looks, i.e leave the front grille shell off. For the rear i would just take off the bed, also if you want my old half doors that are all beat up i will give you those as well. Hell if you wanna save the fender to which look to be in good shape for your bronco, then ill give you my cut fenders as well. So then you wont have to really worry about the body, and it will have already had two clayton trips on it. :flipoff2:

You can have the 35" BFG MTs I took off my dodge. They have almost a 1/4" of tread left. I've also got the 38" TSL radials that used to be on jeep, they still have recognizable tread and no dry-rot, haven't figured out what I want to do with them. For a small amount of money I could get you a set of better 35" BFG MTs from my brother. All hold air and fit 16.5" wheels, only the first set of BFGs has a little dry rot. I can provide you a few 35" spares too.

to answer your pm, the tires are 36x12.50's i believe. They have some dry-rot in the sidewall. I'll need your tires/rims 1st because its at a storage lot and i cant leave it on jack stands.

Kopecki's brother's tires might not be bad.

I only run tires slick on the jeep. None of the ones I'm offering are slick. Turns out I ended up with some 40s to replace the 38s on the jeep while they still had what could be recognized as tread. Hummer tires suck unless you cut them up like mine were, before all the tread wore off.

uglyota
11-09-2007, 07:54 PM
great deal and should be a good bender. Have seen lots of threads where people make basically that same bender. I like that you are bending vertically instead of horizontally with it. Seems like it would be easier to keep your angles right that way. Might have to get me one....hmmmm....

JeepPhisherman

Find the trike builder plans and build your own. May take a little bit longer, but you can come out cheaper with a product you know is well built.

from the design i think multiple plane bends on a single piece of tube would be a *****

JeepPhisherman

That one is a little bulky, but is there any time multiple plane bends on a single piece of tube aren't a *****?

BroncoJo
11-09-2007, 08:32 PM
I found the plans at gottrike.com but they want to sell them. Are they posted anywhere for free? I kinda like the looks of that because it looks like tighter and 180 bends can be preformed. From the looks it uses a dye from a jd2 and that would cost about the same as the one I posted up.

The bad about the one I posted is that there is a max bend of 90 and it bends on a 7 inch radius.

JeepPhisherman
11-09-2007, 10:13 PM
I don't know if anyone is sharing the got trike plans, but I'd bet there are a few people on here who might chip in on the plans.

shortened the rear about 18 ish inches to make the current wheel base 114.5. Still planning on lenthing the front 5-6 inches and maybe shorten even more. I did the shackle flip in the rear but not sure if completely happy, seems to me the the factory confirgeration would allow alot of down travel and to make up for this I put the shackle at a pretty good angle backward. hopefully get more done tomorrow and take some better pictures.

Also does any one have any u bolts for a 60? I need some that arn't set up for 8 inches of blocks.

current plans:
strip inside cab
weld up floors
motor and trans swap
tires
cage
put cab back to gether
and a bunch of other ****

I am confused about the gears I have. If I jack up a tire and spin it one complete revelution the pinion only spins about 1.8 times aroung. I dont think can have 1.8 to one gears. is there another way to tell what gears I have?

Doug Krebs
11-11-2007, 05:52 PM
The real way to do it is take the diff cover off and look at the numbers and divide them.

Sure you're not including backlash?

thats next but I would have figured that you could just count the number of time the pinion spun to make the tire spin once.

BroncoJo
11-11-2007, 06:04 PM
I saw your first post and yes the backlash is not much. It has an open rear end I dont know if that makes a difference

On my bronco which has a detroit, I can spin through the backlash (locking the diff) then as the tires start to move I can spin the pinion 4.1 times to make the tires spin a complete revelution.

take the cover off and count, it is a good idea anyway since you will need to replace the fluids and make sure nothing is wrong witht he new truck anyway

If you took the cover off, why would you count? Just look on the ring gear and divide 2 numbers.

eight
11-11-2007, 06:39 PM
If you are only spinning one tire and have an open diff the pinion will only rotate half of what you are expecting. You have 3.55 gears, or maybe 3.73.

Its alive and driving (about 20 yards total). Got alot done today but still alot to do. Got the exhaust off the bronco to work on the truck with a few modifications. All my gas tanks are shot so I went and bought a boat tank. New u joints everywhere. Also test fitted the trailer I got, wich barley fits with little tires.

Still need done:
Fluid check/fill
rear brake line
brake vacume hose
change pinion angle on front (fix goofy shackle)

-get better brakes- pedal is very stiff maybe the booster is bad, although I do have a f350 booster in the shop
-hook wiring up for the alternater
-better battery box and battery
-weld the rear-there is no traction due to no wieght in the rear
-make a bumper with radiator protection.
-gas cans

Its deffinitly running rich right now but no flames, If I could only get my hands on sum nitrous though...

seriously though I re-thought every thing and I am a long way away. I have a ****load to do. I will be tied up with finals till late wednesday so I could probably use alot of help wednessday night if any is available.

I would be willling to help if you still need it. Not really an expert at anything but if you need an extra set of hands let me know where you live and what time and ill be there.

I will be tied up with finals wednesday until about 5, after that I will start wrenching if you want to help.

I can get this thing ready by friday but I'm pretty hard up for money right now and this will end up costing too much. I might just hold up on the truck do the body swap and get something decent ready for the spring.

Went up to CS last weekend and got a little work done. This rig is just about done only lacking a new set of springs for the front and some lincoln lockers and maybe roll bar, seat bolts, hood, bigger gas tank, batery box, tool box, front bumber, fan shroude (sp?) electric fan, powersteering fluid, skid plates, sliders, exhaust that out of the way, safty harness, shocks, and then the rockwells if I find a spare 2 gs. Now on to the B2 build wich will hopefully be done by the end of the semester.

these are pics from my back yard so I know they are weak.

I got hummer tires just havent felt like swapping yet.

The muffler needs to be raised about 3 inches up before I can build my sliders, Although I do believe I will keap the same exit locations.

got the rear welded up today, secured the rear bumper better, got a front bumper, radiator skid plate(light duty), had an argument with my welder, tighten lug nuts.

need some finishing welds, little grinding and a slightly smaller powerstering belt then I should be ready for 47 tomorrow.

could a leaf spring expert tell me the best/cheapest way to get a setup going for the front. Should I just dump the ****ty steering and go for cross over steering? I don't want to spend much more time on this rig as I'm ready to start on another project, and do everything right from the start.

cross over=more than that peice is worth.

maybe old high boy steering?

you still want those hummer tires swapped over?

you need a gas tank. i have one out of a late 80's cherokee that should be good.

me and a can of ether got the tires on.

I think what I have is the old highboy steer, what I was thinking about is swapping half ton steering(like my bronco has).

I will probably model it after cooks but faster/mo-gheto just to keep in with the theme of the truck. What kind of leafs were used? half ton rears? How do I get the most travel without sustantialy weakening the springs?

70's and early 80's half ton chevies. If you want to go with chevy 56's I can hook you up, I have a chitloat of em. But I only have one set of 52's and I think I might have lost one of them at my shop.

52's are hypothetically better because of pinion drooping issues but I have been running 56's in Pigpen for the last 3 years and havent broken a single front driveshaft u-joint.

RCcola55
04-23-2008, 04:32 PM
ive heard that running the 56's gives you a terrible pinion angle unless you use shims or crazy long shackles, 52's are super easy to find in the yard around here just get a set with as many leaves as possible that away you can tune the pack for less wrap

with my set up i had almost 15in of travel but the springs were so soft the pinion bobbed up and down more then sharpe does on friday nights off of MLK

Sharpe
04-23-2008, 05:05 PM
Longer shackles would make the pinion issue worse. I have 7 degree shims in the front and I think Cook does too. His front hangers are much lower than mine though but his truck is also taller overall.

RCcola55

52's are still the way the go

DRAGOONRANCH
04-24-2008, 05:11 AM
So the story goes... 52"s offer the same flex that 56"s offer, just with less axle wrap. The 52"s are 26/26" center to center and the 56"s are 26/30". I recomend the 52"s, but I went with the 56"s for availablity and I knew the 44"s would end up creating axle wrap even with the 52" so a front wrap bar would be needed either way.

Sharpe
04-24-2008, 04:02 PM
Its not axle wrap that is the problem its the longer end of the leaf spring being on the same side as the shackle and pinion. Its only an issue when that side droops.

Well of corse I fix the trugly up and end not taking it wheeling.

Added:
-lap belt for driver, Idea is to keep me from falling out yet still allow me to lay down incase of roll over.
-box
-hood, welded the latches on due to lack of threaded bolt holes then bent them(latches) today in a test jump.
-hummer tires, hold air for the most part
- finished welding the rear bumper, front is going to be ground off and reconstructed for leaf spring mounts
-got brakes working slightly better, will be swapping in a 1 ton booster and master cylinder later.
-plywood shield
