Might be interested. Why was it removed? How many miles do you think he put on it? Heavy offroad use? Mud? How big of tires was he running?

Its not removed. No idea on miles but the bronco got 6-8 mpg, used ~25 gallons a week. So averaged about 175 miles a week. I think it was only in for about a year of everyday use so maybe 9100 miles +a few off road trips. Would offroad quite a bit, mainly mud. ran 35x15.5x15 tsl sx's.

I'm pulling it out. Its not going to be on road for a long time if ever. If I use the axle for a future project I'll put a spool in it.

was the detroit in your bronco when that avatar picture was taken? If so, I'm no longer interested.

I dont think so, I'm about 90 percent sure that was when I still had 3.55 gears and a limited slip. Soon after I got the locker and gears I welded the front wich greatly cut down on my offroad trips, atleast 4 wheel drive trips.

Detroit made these things for people to use offroad and thats what I did with it.

They make them to go in kickass camaros too.

not to snake a sale here but fred, wouldnt you be better off with a truetrack or the like? do you really want a detroit locking up when you power on in a turn? seems like a good way to back it into a telephone pole.

BroncoJo

... oh this is for a racecar, If you really want to go fast I suggest a detroit or spool. If you want to do burnouts leaving the mall go for a limited slip. It will have a little rougher drive if the camaro is just a cruising car but I'm sure you know that.

I'm not going to take it out inless someone wants it but nothing should be worn when I put it in I completly rebuilt the axle with chromo shaft.

John, I know guys who autocross with full detroits that like the predictability and reliability of their detroit. Detroit lockers aren't near as noticable in a car, nor are spools. You have to remember, it's a 25" tall tire that is only 10-11" wide with an inch of sidewall that you're trying to convince to slip in a turn, not a knobby 35+ tire with a 8 inch-ish squishy sidewall. I would prefer something like a zexel-torsen, but finding any diff under $450 for a 9" is worth checking into.

yeah, we used a zexel in our race car. it's very nice. just wasnt sure if they made them for a 9". ours actually came out of an audi awd "transfer" case. i would just think that, with a detroit, after coasting through an apex and powering out you could get really loose when it locks up and the inside tire uses up all of it's tire circle in the long direction. once you got used to that, im sure it'd be fine, but you'd never be able to exit a corner as quickly as you could with a zexel style that will bias torque and speed.

In a road racing situation with broad sweepers, I would agree with you on the zexel. But, as far as autocrossing, the guy I'm thinking about that was an SCCA Solo II Champion did so with a detriot locker in his 9 inch. Autocrossing is more of a surgical attack on short corners, with a need for faster, shorter reaction and response, so it makes sense that a detroit would work better for that than it would for road racing.

Oh, and I think the True-Trac is as close as they get to a zexel for a 9inch.

I have a tru-trac - think I should start road racing my truck?

they are 4.11, but I'm keeping the third and gears. If someone wanted this I was just going to put a spool in it since I think this axle is about to go under the 77.

just leave it in there. what does a spool cost anyhow?
