Machining flat tops
I've got some flat top knuckles I'd like to get machined for high-steer. Someone suggested I should get the driver's side milled flat in addition to getting the passenger side milled, drilled, and tapped for consistency reasons... Is there any validity to this statement?
Also, I found a place online that will mill, drill, and tap a knuckle for $40 with return shipping included. Is there a place in town that can do it for cheaper?

i got mine done at villas for 50
-
prolly saying to get both done so you have the option to run full hysteer, not jsut crossover
-
Good thinking. Where is villas? And is that one knuckle or both? Did they do a good job?
-
the driver's side is already flat and tapped i assume? if the surface on it is rough, get it touched up so that you have a better surface for clamping and run a tap through the holes to clean up the threads.
-
Yes the driver's side is already flat and tapped. How would I go about getting the studs out to clean up the top? or should I just sand it down some with some sandpaper to get the dirt and crap off the top?
-
put two nuts on the stud. tighten them together. use the bottom one to back the stud out. take it to the machine shop and tell them you just want it surfaced (if its in bad shape) and the threads chased. if you have a rough or pitted surface there you'll shear the studs off and be left without steering on the trail. if its in good shape, buy a tap at harbor freight and chase the threads yourself and sand the knuckle with sand paper.

Cool that should be pretty easy then.
-
that was for one side, but if you done need much work done on the other side then it should be cheaper than 40 each, also tell them that you can get it doen for 40 out of town but you want to keep the business intown so you came to them, that is what my brother did for me when he dropped it of and they matched the price that i had found on the internet.

Good deal... but where's the place at?

It's just past "The Bend" in Bryan, c'mon people! ;) Tell John you know Grayson or Austin, he loved both of them for some reason.
