I bought a long field from Bobby and he asked if he could keep the axle on his wall of shame. I told him it was fine. I will get the truck back together soon but it is far from the top of my priority list and that makes me :(

you gave away a $200 birfield?
well if it wasn't bobbys and it wasn't TGs then whose could it have been?
Initial Investment? I could talk a lot I mean a lot about initial investment in not only your wheeling rig, but your schooling that doesn't make sense to me, but I am not trying to bust balls here.
As best I can see I screwed up in my purchase thinking that I was buying Longfields, in my pre assembled axle. Now I busted an axle shaft, that I don't know where came from. I would be out shipping the axle to and from two different vendors which comes out to just under 40 bucks, all to have them deny that they sold the thing originally, simply because the guy I bought it from won't tell me where he got it (I have emailed and PM'd him). So, what I would rather do is put in an axle that I know is not going to break, have THAT comfort in my mind (if it does I will fix it then and now have a warranty and proof) and move on from my mistake.
I don't think Marlin ever made a 30spl. Maybe poly.
wtf do you know about Sharpe's schooling?
I think he was using the term "investment" in the sense that when you buy the very top of the line of an item you expect to not have to buy another one...not as a jab at you
But since you wanna talk about good financial sense, you're the one who gave a $200 birfield to a guy who makes birfields :flipoff2:
Somebody got butthurt and decided to get personal. BAN HIM!
Took 3.5 months to change a bloody axle but I got it done. The Ugly Tan Taco rides again...

Now it is time to pull T-Cases and get the sealed up right, should be done around Clayton time...
Well nevermind that ****, it's done now! Gonna take her out to BMRA in a week and a half and make sure I have everything good before I head to Clayton in November. Bitch is sealed up, has a new battery, runs like a top, drives better and is loaded on the trailer. I could only ask for a straight cab. ;)

Now it is time to somehow convince Creighton after the first of the year to get his tube bending geniusness into building me a cage . Now that he is in Dallas again it will be convenient. :D
geniusness eh?
Blew the steering pump at BMRA. Had a psc pump I had bought a while back for a spare that I put on her and she is fixed and upgayed. Had to poser flex it out after I fixed the steering and take a picture.

i broke a Poly Performance chrmo shaft in Clayton last year... Didn't send that investment back either - maybe I will?
ahh - yes, probably. I think that broke or something - pretty sure I don't have it:p
I'll get you a new one the next time I see you:flipoff2:
Just don't treat me like a newb and we will be cool:flipoff2:
Just f*cking. And for reference, Scott has always been one of the cool oldies. But I couldn't resist the urge to be a bit of a dick when I had the opportunity. Cheers Scott, I'll buy ya a cold Fosters the next time we meet just to be a southern hemisphere ass*ole, no worries, mate!
insert foot in mouth.
Back on topic...
I sheared three wheels studs at Clayton. In limping off the trail I ended up shearing another and bending the rest yay me. Got it on the trailer and picked up some more wheel studs and went to fix it the day after x-mas. Upon pulling the axle apart I realized I had also sheared off the heads of 6 of 8 spindle retaining bolts and managed to goober up the last two also. Retrieved hardware this week and went ahead and rebuilt thAt side of my axle with new seals and bearings I had. I now have all new studs and hardware on the driver side.
This makes 4 major runs on the taco since I have swapped in the solid axle and 4 runs were I have broken on the first day. But hell I am ready for the Toyota jamboree in two weeks!
Is this a normal thing? I don't know that I have ever heard of someone sheering off spindle bolts? Where they tight to begin with?
yeah it sounds like alot of stuff was loose to begin with
I wish I could say with certainty that it was all tight. I wish I could say that the guy who assembled my axle wasn't a numbnuts and was thorough and wouldn't cut corners. That being said I am starting to second guess a lot of things I "assumed" from an "experienced" builder. I guess if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. I rebuilt the passenger side 4-5 months ago and found alot of bolts loose, Steering knuckle nuts hand tight, sh!t like that. Went through everything and tightened it all up checking every part. I thought it was just something that happened when I blew up the birfield but now I realize that assumption was wrong. As of this weekend I went through all the bolts on the Driver side, pumpkin and suspension components. luckily not much was amiss, just the outer assemblies .
Hopefully I will not have too many more problems in the future. I do believe the Wheel Studs originally sheared off due to lug nuts vibrating loose on my drive into Clayton. I didn't check the tightness of the lugs when I was airing down, a mistake I will not be making in the future.
Creighton always liked to hand tighten my nuts and I can't complain.
what can I say it is a complementary service
Ah HA! Finally a trip in which I did NOT Break anything! GRanted I only got to wheel a day before getting the call that the daughter was sick and packing up and headed to town, but it was a decent day!

Ol Fugly didn't fare to bad either:

Yes that is a 40" LED Light bar on Fugly for those who didn't see it in Clayton, kinda like putting a tuxedo on a turd, but was my Mom's anniversary present to my Dad and it is badass! :gigem:
all that $$$ and still a square driveshaft, keepin it klassy:flipoff2:
I do what I can.
Busted the other chromoly off brand birf that was still in tact down at k2. I had replaced the other with a longfield and was just waiting for this one to blow before I thre my spare longfield in it. Now I have longs in both sides and we will see how long it lasts...
Brady just picked him up a black 98 Tacoma ex cab. I need to send him a link to this thread! :gigem:
Bitch is for sale, you want it let me know. Need to free up funds for future projects :D
The things needs nothing to be a trailer queen, throw a new cab on it and you have yourself a DD that can tackle some damn fine trails out there with AC and Heat.

Price? Sam?
Still trying to figure out a formula to determine that.
once again, I want it more than you know, but funds are probably not going to allow it
