well if I am going to do it once I would rather wait and save more money and go with a 6.0 and have more power than I know what to do with it.
as for trans I would like to go with a TH400 w/ a manual valvebody

why not go 5.3?
6.0=more power

why not go with the LQ4 for half the price and 20 less hp, it can easily be made up with a cam swap and car intake, or even the 5.3 with an LS6 cam and car intake ill make a good 350hp and can be done for under $1000. Also remember the TH400 requires a spacer or custom TC to work with an LS motor.
looks like you just need a spacer

looks like an lq4 w/ cam and headers should make 450 hp w/ a good tune and spin 6000 rpm
that will take a set of L92 heads as well. From all the build ups ive read, L92 heads, ls6 hot cam or equvalent, car intake and a proper tune should make between 460-500 depending on cam. The only difference between in the LQ4 and the LQ9 are forged pistons and less then a point of compression. The only issue i see with those motors are how fast they rev and requiring 2500 to 2800 stall
All of the vortec rods I have seen at the shop have been powdered metal fwiw
from my research the LQ4 is actually a better starting point if you plan on adding boost because of the lower compression, not that I plan on adding any boost to it

oh and Ryno you could use some new casters on your engine hoist :flipoff2:
hmm, looks like you are in the same situation as me!
yes but I bet yours will be done first.
hmm - that's what I need!
So it looks like I am going to go with a 5.3 and th350 now maybe even try to run the 231/300 doubler.

This is what the 5.3 really needs
Nawz!!!!
so it looks like you can put 700r4 planataries in a th350 for a 2.98:1 1st gear

Amazingly this whole setup is about 2-3 inches shorter than the nv3550 231/300 combo. I may have to clock the 300 down to clear the trans though

any more progress?
yeah the wiring harness is 95% complete and the tune is almost there, just need to do exhuast so I can take it all apart and rebuild the trans,
gonna go this route for 32 spline outputs and good assortment of ranges. 7ish:1 would be too low with the auto.

so how is this thing coming along
its comming along, good got the exhaust tacked together and the fuel cell and radiator in place. another weekend of work and it will be ready to pull the motor to rebuild the trans.
I am going to stick with the d300 until i break it
you now have less than one month before shiloh, better hurry
mud still falls out when I beat on it with a hammer it is not going back there for a while
In with the Chevy power from BMF Motors

How long will you driveshaft be with all of that stuffed in there?
30 inches or so in the rear, that setup is actually shorter than the previous setup, np205 is with 1/2 inch of a dana 300 in length
