Got the new trackbar on. While working under there, I realized my money wouldhave probably been better spent on motor mounts.
drive it over to my house tonight and we can put some on
make sure you get some oil filter adapter orings when you do this, unless the filter is in a different location as mine, i had to remover the oil filter adapter to get the mount off
Transmission won't shift out of 1rst now, but it will do 50 in 1rst.
you only need 1st on the trail anyway
correction. I think it shifts into second, but not to third. I do not think it is something internal, but I left it at the trans shop for them to check out.
Some carpet has also been removed.
I haven't lost total interest, but Bronco is back in the driveway awaiting motor. I would sell it for the right price.
"pile full of clutches in your pan" was the quote from Kevin at Trans Specialties :D
haha nice!! so are you going to find a junk yard trans or rebuild this one?
He is putting clutches in it and we will see how long it lasts.
Everything looked good except for the clutches and the TC, which had muddy water in it. I really never got it that deep at Spring Creek. That one crossing was maybe mid door, but it has a had bottom and I never stopped.:confused2
Anyways, I spent way more than I ever wanted to on this thing, but it was pretty much a paper weight without a working trans. Nobody would buy it and I couldn't keep wheeling it.
I have plugged Transmission Specialists before, but can do it again. Very honest. The PO of the Jeep told me it had a newly rebuilt trans. When it started not shifting, I assumed a poorly done rebuild because I never thought it got water in it. I didn't tell Kevin that it was recently rebuilt. He pulled it apart, called me and asked if it had been worked on recently because everything but the f'd clutches and water in the TC looked new. Good, honest and average priced shop. THey looked packed all the time, but he got it in and out in less than a week. Will definetely be taking the F150 to him if the trans craps out again.
The Jeep has some electrical issue. I swapped out an old Walmart battery, and put in a freshly charged one. It ran for a couple days, little errands around town. Parked it for a couple days and it would not start. Took that battery out and swapped in a close to new Exide deep cycle I had in the garage. It fired up, drove it for a couple days, same thing....now want start. I assumed alternator, but now it will not take a jumpstart, and turning the key yields nothing, not even trying.
I have all accessory power, but nothing when I turn the key. I swapped the starter relay, but that did nothing. I have not really looked at it much past that. ANy ideas?
Starter contacts? Starter's not even clicking?
I should have some more info when I mess with it today.
Also, does anyone know where on Jeeps the coolant level sensor might be? It is mysterioulsy losing water, but even after I fill it up it keeps sending me the low coolant message.
Would you be interested in some 2.25" coilspacers as well?
It already has spacers
If they were, it wouldn't be very mysterious now would it.:flipoff2:
i know that jeep have the same basic drive train as my old dodge. i couldnt ever find the radiator leak and it ended up being a slight seepage from the bottom end on the tank. enough to piss me off, but took me a while to find it.
google the damn sensor then:flipoff2:
This buildup is exactly why hotpocket or anyone who doesn't know much about working on cars should get. John probably knows this stuff from working on his Bronco, but maintaining an older vehicle is the best way to learn about cars. Staring with a basketcase is not. There you have it, Jimmy's unprovoked 2 cents.
$1800 for Hotpocket. Ready to wheel and plethora of aftermarkt bolt ons. Do it!
is that 55 at idle or high rmp
they don't put out max at idle
55 was at idle, A/C running.
that doesn't sound to bad. what is the max output/ what is it rated for
For now, it seems to be working fine, but I won't be surprised if it is dead in a couple days.
The Jeep works very well. It runs 70mph down the road just fine and is impressive for a stock non locked rig offroad. I am still not 100% certain the motor isnt on its last leg. It has loads of power, but I THINK it is losing water somewhere. I am just running water in it now, and it did get to 220-230 area today at 47, in 90+ degree heat, a/c running, but never got into the red. If I felt a little more confident in the motor I would be more inclined to build it.
Option 1 would be to lock the rear, bumpers/winch, sliders, skid. Nothing more. Swapping to 3" springs would also really be needed because the 31s rub pretty good offroad.
Option 2 would include all of option 1, but also bigger axles and tires in the 35-37" range. Thinking built 9" rear w/ detroit and built 44 up front,( not sure what locka I would run), assist, and long arms. Keep the doors on and keep the a/c blowing cold.
Option 3 would be to sell it. TAMOR price is $1800.
I waved at ya as I passed ya on Holleman a couple weeks ago... Looks good!
Before considering "option 2" I would look at that pile of Ford you have and ask yourself if you would like to go through that again....
Paying rent for two places and trying to buy house. Jeep needs to go. $1600
how bad of mileage does it get? if it is bad enough I will take it... beat on it and trade it in using the new gay green for guzzlers law... needs to get less than 14 for me to qualify for what my wife wants
I don't know. I would assume it gets less than 14.
I thought it was what the manufacturer or .gov said it got, not actual real world numbers.
12/17 per fueleconomy.gov
hmmm... let me ask the ol' lady... and i might be able to take it off your hands...(it is her that wants the new vehicle)
I was afraid of that... hadnt read up on it all yet
$1500, needs some work. But damnit its a running Jeep with a V8 and A/C!
