I positioned the klogger just past a little ledge. Then I hooked the Ramsey 8000, double lined to it. Jones anchored to a pine tree and hooked his Warn 9000, double lined to it. We both tried to pull with it in neutral, no go, the Klogger was sliding forward.... :(
I got in the Duramax, Jerry operated the Klogger, and Jones tugged his best. I put the Duramax in reverse and held about 10 mph, slowly but surely she came out. Here are the ruts that resulted. I must have hit a really soft spot because there was no real large ruts leading up to it, my front just sank...
So needless to say, mounting that M12000 just moved up on my list....
fairly uneventful.
Worst part was karl telling us there was beer in the truck, only to find one beer left in it and it was 9 oclock on sunday morning so couldnt buy beer:(
Thoughts on this, front reciever hitch from e-trailer, rated for 9000#'s, install is easy and is not too low.

The mounts that Doug posted are only rated for 9k, but as you ran the line back to another spot on the frame and not the hitch mount or winch mount you should only see the pressure the winch pulls. I agree that it really needs a big 12k+ winch, but I believe he already knows that.Quote:

I don't know about other bumpers but my ARB has 6 bolts in double shear and that is on a boxed frame. It is rated for 10k winch.
So I think I will take a stab at making one of these. I was just going to buy the $173 one, but I have some extra receiver size tube laying around. Plus I ahve the welder and need to use the new plasma cutter. So I am thinking of basically copying the drawtite design, but making it a little beefier, I mean they are only using 4 - 1/2" bolts. I will also make a little reciever/license plate mount.
Something I am unsure of is, do you put the pin inside the bumper (Location A) or outside the bumper (location B). Inside the bumper could be a real pain in the ass to get to. Location B might cause me to have a 3 or 4" nub sticking out the front of my truck. Thoughts?
I was talking to Jones and he mentioned possibly making an "H" shaped one, but I do not know if there is enough room.
A 2" ball is usually only rated at 5000 lbs, my rear hitch is like 6000 lbs, but I sure pull some **** with it. My opinion is that those things have to be made to take all kinds of dynamic loads when you are pulling them on the highway at 90...err I mean 45, yeah, thats a safe speed. I think for this they generally hold up pretty well.Quote:

I think that design is fine for what you are wanting it for, you're not winching your truck up a mountain, just maybe once a year or two when you have a couple too many miller lite gatorades in the stand :)

Warn has a "transformer" series that I think you can make look like that.
So, I had Luis order me a "universal" front reciever hitch for the Duramax. It was a little over $100 and the quality looked good, so I was happy. I tried to install it tonight and discovered that it "universally" sucked.
The mount is made to fit under the front valence (i.e. the thing that Wade has ripped off multiple times). This design changes the front clearance from like 11" to 7". Seriously, I think my Chevelle has more than 7" of bumper clearance. I thought this thing would mount where the reciever came out the valence.
Seeing as to how there was no return policy, I took and started cutting. I was able to reuse the square tube and one of the pre-drilled mounting holes (flipped it upside down). I made 2 brackets for the hitch. I have all the holes drilled (I used all existing holes in the frame). I just have to weld it out tomorrow and bolt it down. The draw-tite hitch mounted with 4 bolts, this will use 6, Originally the hitch was rated at 9000 lbs, since I have increased the bolts by 50% the hitch is therefore now rated to 13,500 lbs, right?

WIth the carrier installed and the "access hole" I cut in the valence so you can access the reciever pin. I will make a little license plate holder, that will pretty much cover it most of the time.
Did you fab the mount up or end up buying one. If you fabbed it, I should have told you to make a copy for me! :D

Karl, that bad smell that you can never get to wash off yourself, is Beaumont. If you have to remove the license plate to install the mount, how much harder is it to reach under the valence to insert the pin? On another note, this is exactly what I was going to do on my truck before Baja but ran out of time.
Why not just make a slip in mount for the license plate? Then it's just pulling a pin. (this is probably what you planned on doing, just airing the thoughts in my brain out, gets kinda musty in there at times.)
Apparently I was not clear in my explanation, the license plate mount is attached to a reciever hitch thing, so it just pulls out. If you are lieing on the ground looking under my truck with the license plate in place, you can see the valence cut, but at that point, I would most likely be running you over and your thoughts are not important....
