BRAINSTORM. Poll-lock the little differential in the t-case!
then I couldn't ever shift out of 4WD.
why would you need to do that?
The answer to all my problems! These just came out this week and they are gearing up for production...ashcroft quit making the bolt on box years ago b/c of supllier problems w/ the sun gears in the box. now they sell the box and drop in gears (helical cut for quiet operation)

I would go for the crawler box and keep 3.55's in the axles.
5.95(low)*6.53(1st)*3.55(axle ratio)=137.93:1(final low ratio)
no overdrive needed.
w/ 3.55's, 39" tires, and a 1:1 drive ratio=~2000rpm perfect for a diesel :)
price: 650 uk pounds or $1100.00
I took the roof, doors, rear door, and seat box out today. used the lift truck to take the roof off. a couple of slings and off it came. found some intersting stuff in the back of it. a cool little built in storage box. funny old tag on the tranny tunnel. next I have to pull the rest of the body
more pics contintued
a pic of a twisted axle...pretty impressive amount of twist for these dinky things, and a pic of the mighty land rover 4 spline pinion. I had never seen a four-spline pinion. I guess it takes the guess work out of synchronizing the yokes...50/50 chance. :) a pic of an old locking hub sticker on the winshield. a pic of the frame...now that is what you call a boxed frame. the frame rails are about 3 1/2 inches wide and 8 inches tall in the tranny area.
That thing is PIMP! Jerry Like. Its in alot better shape then i thought.
That thing is going to be really bad ass!
and it looks light too
the body structure is super light. it ALL aluminum except or the cappings and inner door frames. The bulkhead (firewall) is steel also.
The frame on the othe hand is a big heavy SOB.
a door w/ glass probably weighs 20 lbs. my metal full doors w/ glass probably weigh less than jeep half doors.
I also discovered that someone has done some repairs on the RH rear qtr. All the rivets in that qtr are pop-rivets which aren't LR spec. LR uses button heads on all their stuff. I guess I'll by one of those Harbor Freight riveters and see how it works.
how about leafs in the rear and a coil three link in the front?
...and eight link is stronger. :rolleyes:Quote:

I like this truck. It makes me want to build a diesel Landy. :D
you and Grayson should collaborate, you are probably the only two in this club that think a 6.2 in there is a good idea! :)
THis is becoming chadnutz-esque - 4 pages and we just got the body off the frame :flipoff2:
"Oh yeah well maybe if you a-holes stop posting stupid ****, jeez, do you know what kinda deal i got on this thing?"
I think the coilovers would be cool. Kinda like that late model rover someone posted a pic of a while back that had the coilovers and hoops sticking through the hood.
$$$$= high dollar
$= cheap
coil overs= $$$$
used OME rear RR springs = -$
there's plenty of room. I would have to outboard the leafs anyway.
I say he should do it just to spite people.Quote:

Just thought that needed to be hilighted for everyone's good.Quote:

I took the body off today. took a whole 2 hours to get it to where it sits now in the pics. My Dad and I were able to just lift off the tub and set it on the saw horses...the benefits of an all aluminum tub! :D The frame is a lot better than I thought...very little rust on he tops. I'll have to replace the front horns and rear X-member (fairly routine on a rover of this age). somebody ghetto fabbed the outriggers on the rear springs. doesn't matter b/c they will be whacked off to make room for the longer sub springs.
Do you think a diesel will fit in there? may have to remove/rework some of the x-members.
I have doubles of a lot of body panels...I need to have a "auto-jumble" (limey speak) to et rid of this crap.
check out the factory beefed axle tube. the u-bolt runs through it kind of like a skid plate I guess.
hey toyota did that, but they put the trusses on the bottom, where they're needed and you don't have to put the ubolts through them!
:flipoff2:
they are on the bottom  was toyota even making 4wd trucks in 1961?

yes the FJ40 came out in 1960
i just finished reading one of andy mcnab's books. he was a member of the british SAS and they called their D110's "pinkie"s.
new idea grayson. It would fix the headliner problem in the range rover.

kind of gives me a chub. Its the way freelanders should have been built.
Congrats Flem!! You've officially moved from Jeep Fag to Rover Fag!! :gigem:Quote:

I was looking at it yesterday....I think it may become a p/u w/ a dovetail ala the murphy bell. I would really like a 2 door RR. Saw one couple weeks ago over at my friends Sam's place.
this ones got a cummins 6bt and TJ flares

kind of how I envision my 2009 import plans going, except for 20" more wheelbase and the mandatory 350 and dana 60s :D
