Shorten Driveshaft
Grind down crossmember and truss so driveshaft doesn't hit
Lower rear end a notch on the shackles & cut off excess shackle
Replace front axle seal so it doesn't leak on my brakes anymore
Install rocklights
that doesn't sound to bad
lemme know when you want to replace that axle seal...$5 part and about 3 hours
hopefully :D
actually its a 9 dollar part, and can be done much faster if you know the trick (we are talking about the inner axle seal on the front axle, right?)
$4.44/ea at rockauto :flipoff2:
and the last 4 knuckles I helped with I used the "camo method;" I was just being conservative on the time estimate
yeah, the camo method is the way to go.
What do I do if the axle tore up the housing where the outer axle seals is a little bit when my profield broke?
You messed up the seat for the knuckle seal? You put a new seal in it and it won't seal up? Dunno, don't think they make a speedy sleeve for those. Housing's trashed...I'll give you 2x scrap price for it ;)
The seal you see just behing this exploded diagram ;) got kind of torn up. I haven't tried to replace it, but I should.

How's this weekend for changing that seal? Should I go buy the seal first or wait until we take it apart to make sure that is the problem?
you didn't use the camo method...
chadwell you should be able to just replace that seal...I doubt that messed up the seat. yank old out, press new in, reassemble
Chris that's definitely the problem. This weekend should work.
replace with axle that doesn't suck
Haha, we'll see if it sucks after clayton (at which I am now notorious for killing axle parts) - I think it will be pretty damn bulletproof with all the shiny new innards.Quote:

I am thinking of having a workday for myself and others that need driveway space & tools at the house all day saturday if anybody is interested. I still have a ton of frozen slovacek's sausage left over from an event a couple weeks ago and would be glad to share. I'll post up in a separate thread tomorrow.
yeah chris go ahead and get that seal.
if you think it messup up the seat must smear the seal w/ RTV and stuff it in there.
Yeah I might come down on saturday, I want to further my Toyota axle knowledge
what day you planning on doing this... i am gonna weld up the rear end of my f150 and need a dryer outlet or 220 of the like
If you want to do it saturday, I have 220 in the garage, though I don't know if it works. I do have 220 inside at the dryer that is by the garage, though we would need an extension cord (I have the parts & cable to make one or get that garage jack working w/ some help - Krebs?)Quote:

What? You are welding the rear of the 150?
Here's the easiest way to find out :flipoff2:Quote:

ill be here this weekend and i have a long ass extension cord for the welder
make sure you're using the correct extension cord for the right welder. While a 220 mig may run on a 12 gauge extension cord fine, a cracker box won't be happy on it.
but maybe if we ran two or three 12-ga cords in parallel...
:haha:

grinder...
well i will probably weld to the carrier too... you can pick up a new one on ebay pretty cheap... i could get a limited slip one off ebay now but i would rather just weld it and do that later if i get tired of full lock

now just to figure out something about ground clearance... not really... im not one of those guys that lifts a 2wd... or am i... dont know yet
tate, plain and simple, don't weld it. I can't imagine a daily driver with a welded carrier. I remember when we welded up hensels rear and he pulled out of the drive way. The slightest turn and it started barking.Quote:

maby i will cough up the 50$ and get the limited slip... i would probably save that in tire wear alone... it will have to wait till next month then... ill just have to hit everything with a little momentum right eric
definetly go w/ the limited
hit it wit some speed!
you could replace your shocks with air-helper shocks for selectively getting a little more clearance
ill whore myself out to sit in the back of your truck for added traction as wellQuote:
