im not trying to steal it either. ill look at it and if it doesnt tickle my fancy ill come back with a full report and more pics. it sounds like it gonna have to be a full faith purchase, no test drive type of deal.
Well, pretty much I need a new daily driver. It's not like I'm looking to buy it to turn or make an offroad rig out of. I'd like to get it, and after talking to the guy, he apparently didn't want me to paypal a deposit. So I guess one of the Johns is going to get this one. No biggy I guess.
i think you guys should let fred get this thing
seriously why would the rest of you really need this thing
everyone that posted has a brand new truck and an off-road rig already... or live in yankee land :flipoff2:
It was going to be my daily-driver for when im in htown...but I slept on it and i'm out.Quote:

i do know it hasnt had the head gaskets replaced and it has a recall on a "steering rod"
big rust spot/bondo on the bottom of the drivers door. top of drivers window and tailgate. no telling whats under the bedliner. clear coat is peeling pretty badly.
yeah, toyota clear coats suck. How bad is the rust on the tailgate and top of driver's window? surface rust, or holes?
holes
i meant to take pics but forgot
also, it looks like the oil has been changed since it was parked
well, I'm guessing it probably needs a motor, that's why the "starter is out", but even if it needs a motor, it's probably still a good deal from what I've been seeing on ebay and autotrader
since it will need a new motor anyway, swap in a 3.4 out of a taco and add a supercharger :D
Well, A new door can be had at the bone yard and it turns out I know how to paint, so I'm thinking I can make this a decent looking truck. Even if I end up dumping a grand in paint and motor work, it would would still sell for more than $2500 when I was done.Quote:

from what I was reading, they completely replaced A LOT of these motors when the recall hit. From like mid-90 up the 3vge's were in the recall.
I hope fredo gets it, 5.3 time :gigem:
so are we convinced that the motor is bad? I assume a compression test would reveal yes or no?
hmmm...not a bad idea!
yeah, we pulled the carfax here at work and it doesn't show anything about any recalls being performed...so I'm betting the motor is going to need some help.
do you need a functioning starter to perform a compression check?
just hafta turn the crankQuote:

John Cox, I emailed him again and he said you are going out there at 5? Do you need help trying to push start it?
in addition to the fresh oil, there is a new air filter, and new coolant which is filled to the very edge of the radiator cap. as far as the starter, in my opinion it is kind of hard to purposely mess up a starter. meaning that it is usually one of three things A) it will engage but wont spin, B) it will spin but wont engage, or C) it will just click. if you could hook up a decent battery and it did one of these three things then i would say the starter may be its problem.
also john said that he didnt want to try and start it without a full fuel system flush because water may be in the fuel. how in the hell is water gonna get in the system when its just sitting. especially since the fuel door has a lock on it.
i tried to turn the engine over by turning the pulleys. this didnt get me anywhere. i would think you could do such a thing.

you can't turn a 22re over without really cranking on a 1/2" ratchet. I'd bet money that the starter is a cheap fix...the contacts wear out. If it's got a blown HG you should be able to push start it and run it a while then see if the oil and water are mixing. I would have bought this truck when it was first posted if I had money. I hate you guys. oh and lemme know if you wanna borrow a compression tester :flipoff2:
How do you think I feel? I've got money and one of these guys is going to buy it before I can get to CS.
wah, 2 hours and 15 minutes away...take a long lunch :flipoff2:
2 and 15?? how f'n fast do you plan on going with a trailer? ***
I thought you had "heim" :D
so which one of you got it? I'm gonna assume its john by the screen name
