eric, where do you want the people that are flying in to meet you, i would assume the passenger pickup, but i have never been to the denver airport so i just want to make sure
actually when you fly into denver the bag claims are split to two sides of the building. so continental may be separate from southwest.
i would just say everyone meet at the southwest pick up point.
you get off the tram, go up the escalator, go right and then go left to get your bag from the baggage claim. the southwest baggage claim in the same except you hang a right.
(i fly way too much)
Yeah you guys can just gather at the same spot in passenger pickup and give me a call and tell me what side to go to (red or blue) and we'll come get you
I am going to have to trailer since my shiat's not legal right now. Creighton and I were talking about it and figure that will work out well, since that means we'll have a single trailer (easy to park) at the trailhead in case anything happens...if something happens to several rigs we can run up to the campsite and get a GN.
Oh did you guys order green stickers yet? I still need to get one.
Thinking Carnage first thing Friday, then chinaman's if all goes well (snowbashing at the top). Iron Chest on Saturday if we still have operable rigs (more snowbashing at top). Grizzly or Wheeler Lake were recommended as shakedowns for you guys on Thursday
...
i dont plan on checking a bag so ill meet yall at the baggage claim
You need everything the cop asks for when he pulls you over. License, registration, proof of insurance. Sounds to me like they actively pull people over and check, even if you have plates.
well i have a title and insurance, no registration or plates.
i thought all the forms for their tags just said proof of ownership and vin #
i did not realize we would be driving through a town and such.. not sure i really even want to try that. i thought we would would be out in the mountains somewhere, no where near cops or towns.
so you think if i show them i have a proof of title, insurance and my license it will be ok?
i just got the paper work for the title today, so no actual title, and on it it says "title only, no registration"
this is 1000x more than i have ever had in the past.
should i pull a fake license plate off the wall? :flipoff2:
you're talking about for driving on FS roads/trails, right? You can not drive on a public road (county roads and bigger) without registration showing that you have paid somebody for their road maintenance. I think for the green sticker all they care about is that you paid for the green sticker
so then i need to trailer mine as well?
even if its a texas vehicle? my lack of registration does not come out of CO pocket.
so everybody else is completely legal?
so should be just plan to take one gooseneck to the trail head? mine and the ugly?
Yeah I think that is all correct. Anybody know if a vehicle registration includes any federal taxes?
if i was magically able to find an inspection sticker by tomorrow morning i can get plates and a registration for it... but i do not see that happening... i tried.
i know back in the day when my jeep had wisconsin plates on it, if i got pulled over the cop would ask about the plates and i would just say thats where it was registered and then that was it. it had expired stickers right on the plates.
well everybody knows my jeep was never legal. so having insurance and a title will have to work.
Just get a green OHV Colorado sticker for 09 and keep it off the paved roads. Not that hard to do up there :)
i will need to be towed also, so it looks like eric coop and me
alright this whole OHV sticker thing is a total clustering event. I am waiting for a call back from someone who actually does enforcement on the trails we're doing, so she can tell me what we will need to have in order to avoid getting busted.
I got the whole scoop. First, here's the map we need, don't know if it's been posted yet:
http://parks.state.co.us/NR/rdonlyre...ourMileMap.pdf
We can basically drive non-licensed vehicles on all the roads except 24 and 285 with an OHV sticker. I think that still means we will have to trailer or poach 285 briefly to get to most of our trails.
She said "if it has an out-of-state plate you don't need a sticker." She didn't say they would check if anything was current, etc, so that's your call. I would get the sticker anyway if I were you. I'm going to get mine at lunch tomorrow, there's an office like 5 blocks from my office. Lemme know if any of you guys want me to pick one up for you.
I was thinking along those lines but didn't want to speak out of turn should you question my credibility. In the Summers we used to get those OHV stickers and they told us the rules of thumb is they would let us drive on all the dirt county roads as long as we didnt get on any major paved roads. Of course this was 4 wheelers and I didn't check any Colorado Laws. :D
yes i need one.
i just sent you an email with my info
weather's lookin good...

Same here. Mine is definitely not (on) road worthy. I'd like to trailer it as close as possible. I've never had an issue up there with it before, so lets not start now. I assume I can get a green sticker when I get there. I've never had one of those either.
Starting to get excited!
Ok my questions: Might PM you as well Hippie.
I am going on the assumption that I can hit some sort of grocery store for my lunch crap. Nothing fancy, most likely granola bars, crackers etc. Also I will prob stock up on beer as well.
I am packing tonight, and still in the air on how warm to pack. ANyone have advice for this time of year? 40 sounds cold, but I am thinking it will not be that way long in the mornings. Shorts, tshirt, and fleece would be ideal, will I freeze?
Sunday, if we don't do anything Eric suggested, I would be down to hit up a brewery.
I am thinking tomorrow will be a charlie foxtrot until I get headed to houston, hopefully it is smooth sailing after that. DavidO, what time are you planning on leaving, (I will prob leave earlier as I am not that familiar with houston/hobby and prob dont drive as fast.)
The 4 of us will all be together on the flight, so at DEN it will just be a matter of finding colman. I have his number. Brian, let us know if there is a delay or anything.
seth, i packed mainly jeans and a fleece, the thing i have learned in my numerous summer trips to colorado is to layer, the mornings are nice, the afternoon can get hot, but the weather doesnt look like it will, and then the nights get cold
also ill give you a call when i get to denver but i plan on meeting yall at the southwest baggage claim
pack something for rain guys, up in the mountains you are bound to get a shower every afternoon. I always take at least a good waterproof jacket, or pancho from walmart.
2ish
Sounds good, you are in my phone. Is it windy much? I am not counting much on sun for warmth either. Feck, jeans suck.
Seth, it will get warm in the afternoons, it will get in the 80's and the humidity after the shower can be stuffy. Shorts are great just pack a pair of jeans for night/early morning. T-Shirt and Fleece will also be good for shedding in the afternoon.
check in. I'm a B. I forgot earlier.
What dave?
Also, faggie - forecast says nothing over 70.
B-19, i passed out like 15 minutes before check in.
i hope to stop at a small grocery as well.
40 in colorado is nothing like 40 in texas. it will not be that bad, just a couple layers. i may throw some thermals in my bag.
my sleeping bag is for like -20 so i am usually hot in it.
just found 4 free drink coupons for southwest!
weather changed a bit.
may have to repack my bag and find my poncho.
Looks like you guys got it figured out but jeans, shorts, t-shirts, fleece, and a jacket should take care of you. rainwear doesn't look like a bad idea either.
We'll pass a bunch of grocery stores on the way down tonight. I'll bring a cooler.
B 47. Leaving ASAP. beltway 8 rather than through downtown?
beltway or 610, dont go through down town.

great trip, good wheeling, good carnage, good company, if i had pictures i would post them up but i dont so someone else will have to
we just made it back in. good times indeed. will post more after some much needed sleep.
Sharpe is now in the very exclusive group of "I have pulled a 40' GN" which includes Chadnutz... :flipoff2:
We are alive.
Im going in to work late.
Coop would you rather me drop off the jeep tomm so i have time to clean out your cooler?
