a little overkill but you know me... 3/16 plate steel to build sliders and more with
I'd just buy cool **** for that since everyone and their cousin makes stuff for TJ's and build the Bronco.
i like the fabrication part of working on these things... i dont like wiring and bending brake lines and such which i have remaining on the bronco... plus building is a little cheaper and mo betta
i am going to cut and weld it.... i couldn't find any angle that was big enough... it needed to go back about 8" to mount underneith
3/16" is thicker than the frame
yes but it is not uncommon for people to use it on sliders... fabfours uses 3/16 so i dont think it will be too heavy
You only need to fasten angle through the body under the door, not many people fab a bracket to tie it to the body mount when you make them at home.
will it support a step without tieing it in to the body mount though?
Yes. TJ floors are double wall and plenty strong.
For extra bracing, you could do like what shrockworks does, and add plate on top of the floor to distribute the load a little better.
www.shrockworks.com for pics of what I'm talking about.
Look under the CJ rocker guards for the pics.
ya i have seen it that way... just didnt know how strong it was... but it isnt like us tates are that huge either
Mounted that way you can use them to lift one side of the Jeep off the ground, so they're strong.
ok i will probably do it that way... it will be much easier than the other way anywho
i guess i have some kickass material for a flatbelly skidplate down the road
these showed up today... i might actually start building it this weekend when i have off... that is if i dont work in the yard instead
about 5 hours and 8 beers work... i am taking my time on this one... i will work on it more next week
i am taking my time on the jeep... i am taking a leave of absence on the bronco
what all is left on the bronco? that thing has been down ever since i have been in the club
Set front gears, all wiring, driveshafts, cage, all brake lines, fluids all around, exaust, some other odds and ends... it isnt only the work but the driveshafts and cage will cost a lot of money and i dont like brakes nor wiring so that is why they are not complete, oh and steering and all that stuff
looks good
So basically all the **** that makes a truck go where you want it to.
Well this is how it will stay for now until i have a spare tire.... there is no reason to build that part when all i have is a tiny 235 spare
you should throw that hinge away and build a fold-down type tire carrier that integrates with the cage. Those swing out ones always crack and/or loosen up
I need front bumper ideas... just took off the one it came with and hadn't brainstormed the new one yet
google tj front bumper, then click on the images link.
getting it ready for Clayton '08?
Is the bumper all you have done so far?
No, he did this too!

here are the before and current pictures. I havn't decided exactly how I want the sides to look yet. fred you have a picture of your front I liked it?
front rock lights... I know some drunk guy killed it at katemcy but I am drunk and bored so I used some bronco parts and rigged them up anyways
uh hu hu I GOT LOCKA
more pics
It had almost no gear oil in it when I pulled the cover. Went together rather easily. one bolt stripped even though I was using a torque wrench. Took several hours to track one down but found one deep in the mexico part of san antonio..
Tested it out around the block, it throws you around in 4wd a little but fine in 2wd. I ramped the bronco's 40's in the driveway but stopped after killing a valve stem in one.
Katemcy here I come
First time I've checked this thread in awhile. I don't know why mine would be a good fit for a TJ...the ears would be way too low unless you stepped them up at the ends. I'll take a straight on shot for you when I get home...after I go pick up the ****pile camaro from the body shop.
