So thanks to the Hippy, I know have a new to me axle housing. Here is a question for you guys, using the interweb it looks like these housings bend pretty frequently, my axle might have actually been bent from when the axle truss was welded on. When they bend while driving it is usually from doing sweet ass jumps, and it usually bends out by the knuckle where most truss's do not support. So here are the questions:
1) Should I cut the "Toyota" truss I have off and carefully weld it to the new housing. This obviously strengthens the housing, but it does nothing to prevent bending out by the knuckle. Also if I do not weld it properly I run the risk of bending this housing???
2) Should I put some trusses/re-inforcement at the knuckle. Marlin Crawler sells this kit,
http://www.marlincrawler.com/axle/fr...kle-gusset-kit
but I think I could cut a simple brace out of steel and weld it on.
3) Or should I just say, f'it and put it in as is?
My vote, you're probably fine, but if you're concerned about it, do all of it now and be done with it. Not sure if Scott ever had a brace. If not, you probably don't need one. :)
I use lowrangeoffroad.com, i feel their prices are cheaper than marlin or trail gear. And I have the knuckle gusset kit and diff cover because I hear they're worth it. I never did the upper axle gusset because I have that factory lower one.
