flathead ford!
yeah, really, if you want to go oddball, why not go for a Nailhead Buick, a GM Stovebolt 6, an Old's Rocket? OH! A Rolls Merlin V12! You wanted something big and oddball right?
Sweet! They look better when they aren't painted in McDonalds colors though. :)
There is a hawt 440 Fred would let go cheap out at Scoutfourk, Brett's scared of it I think. ;)
I know I am, I've had nightmares about it.
It is a very stout runner, but I don't know about that whole letting it go cheap idea. I think I need to go do some burnouts with it this weekend while we're up there.
i think it all needs to go in lurch
Never messed with it after that day. I'm almost 100% sure that it's the Ignition control module that took a dump while we were messing with it because if you remember, we had it running, and then shut it down and then it didn't have spark after that. We're supposed to go out there tomorrow to work on stuff so I'll probably swap that out and see what it does.

or Free.99 out of the BMF stockpile of spare ignition parts.
Screw you guys, I'm going home.
Half-ass progress. Got the drag link off the pitman arm, track bar is gone, shocks out, coils are off the buckets and I just need to pull four bolts to get the links out - left them in to do some front axle figuring. Also, turns out the Jeep is light enough that I can pick the front end up off the axle now, that's how I made sure everything was unbolted. :)
Front axle choices. Next post has picture of steering/track bar geometry. Turns out the Chevy D60 has some stuff in the way of all that, so I'm thinking I may be better off swapping the Chevy knuckles on the Ford axle, or selling both and finding a Ford HP D60 and running with that. I need to do some more measuring on the Ford D60 I have to decide whether it's wide enough to work with the 14b rear and what to do about axle shafts.
Old steering and track bar locations.

Was it Maveric of Paul that painted your draglink?
Blake and Paul did it one weekend when I was in Eagle Pass.
Possible coil and LCA brackets, not sure what to do about uppers.

i've got an HP d60 for ya pm me if interested
Here's the Rubicon Express front axle bracket kit. Not sure what to do here, I don't really think either of the choices I've found are ideal for any D60 setup...

Wtf do the shock mounts bolt on top of the kingpin?
what is that kingpin axle you have out of? looks like 78-79 ford but is it lp
It's from a 76 Ford - Just weird enough that you have to get creative with inner axle shafts to find stock length ones that will work. Not completely sure I want to use it yet but it's free for now so I may just set it up and worry about buying shafts when the time comes.
You're probably counting chickens, but we'll see how the next few months go. :D
I bet the next few months will be hot and there will be a lot of beer consumed. :)
I worked on it tonight. The driver's seat is out and I learned that the flip-forward mechanism on the passenger seat doesn't like to work any more so the rear bolts weren't accessible. Also took the rocker guards off since I kept hitting my head on the parts that used to protect the bottom of the fenders. Tried to get the pinion nut off so I can sell the gears/locker out of the D30 but it was a no go. Used a 3/4" breaker but all I could do was make the whole damn thing roll forward, too hard to hold something against it and put pressure on the breaker without an extra hand.
Put some superlube on the passenger seat so maybe it will want to move tomorrow night.
is this that high pinion dana 30 out of a cherokee? any shafts?
Yes and yes. One has kustom welded caps but if its for the YJ I guess it wouldn't matter much. I can pull those and the unit bearings if you need them.
I can't find the pieces or a vacuum diagram for that bull**** disconnect axle so it needs a 1 piece shaft
flem, a psl-920 will do the job nicely! (why the hell do I still know this **** off the top of my head?!?!)
You need the special seals to convert it to a one piece shaft, but I've got the shaft you need. Just let me know when you want to pick it up.
Robert and Fred came over tonight to watch me pull the axle shafts. They also helped move the D60s to a better location to sit and think about axle placement. I printed a picture of the Blue Torch D60 truss that would help get the Chevy D60 under the Jeep so we'll see how creative he can get with his computer. Also loosely kicked the idea of coilovers around, but the only way I want to run those is if they can be mounted through the hood.
through the hood, really? just get an 18" stroke and it will for sure be stickin' through hood. roll resisance is much better with coils and if you have a real frame you can make pretty clean coil mounts much easier without having to build a complex and time consuming engine cage. plus 2.0 emulsion smooth bodies are pretty cheap, and you can alway's put a resi on it later as funds allow if you need it.
i dunno why but i'm always surprised when i see this thread has been updated with actual work being done... :flipoff2:
good job, git`r done!
figure out which 60 configuration you're gonna use yet?
Like this, sort of.
