Can someone explain everything there is to know about a distributor vacuum advance and what it does
just crimp it shut, thats what the p.o of my truck did......................
holy crap..............! I second this! x1,000,000,000,000,000
I got rid of it on the rover. real engines dont have that crap
I'd see if there's mechanical advance on the distributor, and if so just change the weights on it to make up for the lack of vacuum advance, if not, then you should just leave it alone or you could see if there was a distributor for that engine that used it.
Alright looking at 35spl shiat I like drive slugs for the strength, but they suck on the road with an always locked front end. I know I can get them with the slug eliminator. How many of you all running slugs have the eliminators? If so do you ever remove them or is it just to much of a pita?
i heard that the fit fing tight! and its kinda a pita o get them out
What locker do you have up front? With my detroit up front, I don't have any problems w/ the slugs in. The only thing I have run into is that the driveshaft is always turning and since it had a pretty good dent/bend it would vibrate a bit and had a knock to it somewhere. If you are going to run a spool/lincoln locker then it may not be so good for you on the pavement. I got pretty good at pulling the slugs, and just takes someone to rock the truck to get them to slide out sometimes (that and keep a little grease on them when you put them in to keep from sticking).
What is this slug eliminator you speak of? You can take the slugs out and put the backing plate, clip and cover back on to keep the hub sealed up if that is what you are talking about.
I ran the welded front with drive flanges for years. It sucks on things like highways. This is the reason I now have a detroit. Unlockable hubs are for suckers.
I will have a pol-laka at both ends, is there any other way?:gigem:
I now don't really know why I asked that question I had the same setup in the waggie abortion.
Ed yes the elminator allows you to pull the slug but still keep the cap on the hub. That style runs about 50 bones more.
Do you have a link to the eliminators? I want to see how you pull them and if it would be easier than the 4 allen bolts and the snap ring.
It works the same and you still have to remove all the parts it just simply allows use of the cap minus the slug.
Like so

was the 203 ever used in ford or chevy truck with a 60?
I believe all 79 ford 4wd's had either a 205 or a 203, i could be wrong though
the 203 was used with the 60 in some 80s model chevy truck. thats what the truck that i got my 60/70 combo had in it. it had a th400 in front of it
hmm... the 203 will bolt up exactly where a 205 is correct?
Not only no but hell no.
it wasnt a transplant. im sure of it
Mk, the reason 400/203 combos are so hard to find is deffinately not because they were only ever used for TWO years (77-78) in 3/4 tons.
damn 2 for 2 today for john!!! he may make it to my funny list!
I hear there is a 'little bigger than typical' lawnmower for sale in the classifieds over on tx4x4...
question, what happens if your front axle and rear axle are geared differently?
boom.
ya, what flem said. Something will blow the f*ck up. If you have to have your rig geared differently (temporarily off course). Either keep the front hubs unlocked or if you don't have selectable hubs take the front d-shaft off.
