Yeah it's the JK drivers for the latter. :flipoff2:

Dis tread is :rainbow:
Dat is alllllll
Public thread, let's stop ****ting on probably the most wheeled student DD'ed rig.
What kills me is when we have the weather like we have the last couple weeks and jeeps still have tops on. this is as good as it gets in texas! May as well buy a liberty or commander instead of a 4 door JK.
Well, the **** never ends with this thing. When I got the Heep back I noticed that she had started to have some harder shifts, even some minor slipping following the 2-3 shift when under power.
Figured it was time for a transmission flush today. I found some fine brass shavings in the fluid... Looks like I'll be milking what I can out of it...
I just had the transmission rebuilt 70k miles ago too.
Sorry guys, still more soft-core upgrade bull**** :flipoff2:
Installed my front Currie upper and lower short arms with Johny-Joints on each side.
I've had these laying in my apartment since early September. I can't believe I waited so long to install these things. Probably took less than 3 hours for all four, including drilling out the mounts. My Jeep feels at least 50% less sketchy than before. The steering is so much tighter, less buffeting in the wheel, it even rides better.
I'll put some pictures up of how ****ed my stock control arms and bushings were later.
I delayed the purchasing Juniors HP30 re-gearing of my axles to save for the my impending transmission failure. I think she will last at least a few more months, as long as I keep babying her.
Before Clayton I am hoping to get these done:
- Buy Aussie/spare parts from Tate
- Install Aussie
- Extended my front shock mounts (ford shock mounts, $20)
- Out board the rear shocks (ford shock mounts, $20)
- 12" travel shocks
- Front extended brake lines
-I've got some 12" OME nitro-sport shocks in.
-Transmission is fixed.
-Front differential is F'ed and the pinion seal is crap. I need to find an HPD30 to swap in pretty quickly.
why not look for a d44 or a 60?
Why not rocks? :flipoff2:
- Money
- weight
- over-kill
- simplicity
- lack of fabrication skillz
- ground clearance
My Jeep probably makes around 100whp, weighs some where around 3600 lbs, and runs 33"s.
One day. but for now, no.
I have the Dana 30 from my tj sitting in my garage. You interested?
i was more asking if you were also looking for a d44 as a replacement also or just a d30? but with 33's i wouldn't go bigger than a d44, i would think that a d44 would open up more options for you in the future as you can run 35's or even 37's if you are gentle on one
I was trying to make the point that a d-44 can handle a lot more than people give it credit for. While I was poking fun at the people that run 40"+ on d-44s I feel that they can quite easily (with some mods) handle 37-38"s all day. With a huge reduction of weight and increase of ground clearance versus a d-60. I would NEVER put a d-60 in my CJ. A built d-44 or 609 is a different story however!
Back to Adams jeep, this thread is called a 'softcore' build so I would be surprised at anything more than a d-30. For his desires and driving style I think this d-30 'upgrade' is the best solution for his problem. Let's see some pics of progress Adam!
Would I be open to a D44? Yes. But, a front TJ D44 (Rubicon) isn't worth the money. I already have a rear TJ D44, so I don't want to have to deal with different widths, bolt patterns, etc.
I'm not looking to go any bigger than 33"s for a while. I have too many other projects, and I would like to buy a DD before I put another significant investment into my Jeep.
Yes, what gears/differential does it have?
3.07 or something like that and an Aussie locker. I have spare parts for it also
Thanks, but I sourced an HP30 locally.
I've done a few things in the last few months...
Axles:
HPD30 swap:
- Reinforced lower control arm brackets
- Lower Conrol arm skid plates
- thicker factory style diff cover
- Currie upper control arm Johnny joint conversion
- 4.88s
- ARB
Rear TJ D44 Swap
- 4.88s
- ARB
- Solid Diff Cover
- Reinforced control arm brackets
- Currie lower control arm skids
*All new bearings, ball joints, etc.
Also installed an SYE, shaft, and an aluminum "Undercover fab Ultra High Clearance transfer case skid". Which gained something around 3.5" of clearance under the belly.
Suspension and Steering:
- All 8 Currie dual johnny joint control arms
- Front/Rear adjustable Currie track bars
- Currie HD steering
- Rancho steering stabilizer
- extended brake lines
- OME nitrocharger sport shocks (something like 11.5" of travel)
So I've came a little ways. I still need to set my pinion angle and get an alignment, along with install the compressor and switches for the ARBs.
Hopefully I can make the first trip out this fall.
I threw a rod 10k miles ago and installed a new long block. Rebuilt my t-case, and my transmission has about 20k on it. So aside from the destroyed interior and rough exterior, she will be like a new rig.
Sweet
sounds awesome :gigem:
So I've been distracted and never quite got the Jeep back together. Purchased a house, and have been traveling quite a bit for work.
I've been itching to buy a new vehicle, but wanted to get the Jeep back to DD status and enjoy the lack of a car payment for a few more months. This is my opportunity to get the Jeep to where I have always wanted it.
As she sits right now:

I've added a Currie Anti-Rock, new rear sway bar endlinks, and installed all of the things I mentioned in my previous post. (D44/HP30, Currie suspension, Aluminum "tummy-tuck", etc.)
The OME shocks I were not quite what I wanted, so I dropped the Jeep at Junior's where he welded in some new shock mounts...

Used a TNT customs kit to outboard the rear shocks through the frame:

In the front we extended the front shock towers with some old F-250 towers:

I wanted a 12" travel shock that was valved for a TJ... My options were pretty limited so I ended up with some remote reservoir fox shocks... Pretty sexy if you ask me. :flipoff2:

Looks good!
well except for the f250 shock mount, but the Fox Shock should hide that :gigem:
I've been chipping away at some basic stuff. Replacing power steering lines, etc.
Looking to order some suspension seats as my factory seats are very far gone. Any opinions on Corbeau JP?
http://corbeau.com/baja-jp.html
Also, looking to jump on a winch. I can't decide if I should give into the propaganda and pick up a synthetic lined M8000, or maybe try one of the comparable (and much higher value) Superwinches? Open to any suggestions.

Warn and would you prefer a reclining seat?
if you get a superwinch that is not an x9 or a worm drive you might as well buy a harbor freight
I say get the x9, Its on my wish list before clayton.
I think I'm going back to steel cable, but I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I guess it depends how many 'tards are going to be around you while using the winch.
I like rope, but can see how cable is still desirable. I have learned to splice rope back together after cutting it a few times via a few Youtube videos
The rope only seems to break when you are being a dumbass and let it pull over a rock, which is easy to do at Clayton etc...
I had to use the winch on my pickup, with cable, yesterday to winch something onto a trailer and torn up my hand. I know properly rewinding is how to prevent tearing up cable, but I never do.
I can't even recall the last time I reclined my factory seat. On most trips my tool boxes and cooler inhibit recline anyways.
I am moving to Denver in the next 6 weeks and decided to downsize so the Jeep is my only vehicle. So, I am rushing to get as much done as I can before I move... Since I will be moving close to downtown with limited space to work on the Jeep.
Happy early Birthday to me!
Please excuse the crappy cell phone pictures...

Corbeau JPs with Seat heaters. I ordered clothe/vinyl but they sent me these... The full vinyl might be growing on me.
Also, Savvy Aluminum rear bumper with 2" receiver.

Savvy Aluminum front bumper with winch guard and fairlead mount...

Undercover fab "Belly up" aluminum transfercase and engine skid plates... Much lighter than factory and gave me 3" additional clearance under the t-case.
Other things done:
- H4 headlight conversion
- Novak T-case cable conversion
- Added a blue tooth audio receiver to factory head unit
- Cheap HID driving lights that are humorously large
- Converted front speakers to larger 5.25" Polk speakers
- Polk Tweeters mounted by factory door stops under dash
- Polk Amp
- Converted rear sound bar to larger 6.5" Polk speakers
- Replace or repaint a few faded things in the interior here and there
Those seats look nice. Might need to find me some
PM Classic City Off-road for a quote on Pirate. Pretty great price with free shipping.
I ordered a Warn M8000-S, should be here today.
Skid plate looks pretty sweet.
