Drill tap the huge boss furd 205s have and make a foot mount to the frame. I broke three TH400 housings in Pigpen before I added the foot mount. After that, no more problems.

Are you going to have to get a new drive shaft?
It's too clocked to use the factory mount. Didn't realize it before I put it in.
Problems.
-Need to Re-route fuel and brake lines so I can weld to the frame.
-Mounting holes in AL are starting to get wallowed out. Maybe I'll do a helicoil, or just use studs and nuts instead
Karl, where did you get the bearing plate mounting bracket? All I can find is fancy ones that come with bushings.
He made it plate, transfer punches and a drill press are alll you need
Good luck getting a trans jack to work easily on that.
I like how I made my frame mounts that have a piece of 1.75" tube ran through them parallel and up inside the frame. I ran all of my electrical and fuel through those.
There should be some pics in my build thread. Making a good full skid is tougher than you think. I have only hit my doubler skid like 3 times, and yes you can really mind f these crossmbers, try not to.

One side frame bracket done.
Two questions.
Where is the exhaust going to go?
Is that going to be a poly bushing right next to the header collector?
It's a good 6" away. The picture makes it look a lot closer.
The crossmember is gonna go under the exhaust.
Hokay! Just checkin!

Progress. Legs will be welded to the crossmember and bolted on the frame bracket. Still figuring out the 205 mount. It'll either be on the bearing plate or the side mount.

Not scott schubring nice, but i'm pretty proud of it so far. Uses the 205 factory side mount off of that top crossbar between the two frame outriggers.

Side mount for the 205
Nice work!
Looks good. Who did the Tig work?
Am I blind, where is the trans mount? Otherwise looks good.
I thought Clayton started on Thursday?
Looks good though. I always hated the Clayton prep/finals week. There was never enough time.
Just saying, I went to alto and downsouth with only the doubler cross member and no trans cross member...
Factory trans crossmember is in way of front shaft. My trans crossmember was a piece of tube bent around the front shaft
It'll be done or I won't sleep..........
Got the shifters done. They're a little out of alignment but they work, and that's all I'm worried about at the moment.
The cradle is already pretty sturdy, and since the bottom loop goes forward of the adapter foot, maybe just an outrigger to the trans mount (like the one for the foot on the 205) would be sufficient? This would just tie everything together...most of the weight is supported on the doubler adapter anyway.
Why tie them together? Then if you have to drop just the doubler you have to dick around with jacking up the transmission too and then it's harder to get the doubler stabbed back in. It'd be easier to make a separate crossmember for the transmission.
I think it would be easier than making a crossmember that has to go under/over/around the front driveshaft. With the people doing a single tube crossmember for their doubler adapter I would agree a separate trans crossmember would be necessary. With that large cradle and 4 frame mounting points I don't think it would be necessary to have a separate trans crossmember. A ratchet strap across the frame rails can hold up the trans just fine when the cradle is pulled.

Fresh slate. Re-doing all of the front sheetmetal.
Too bad college station doesn't have a pick n pull
Replaced both batteries and the starter today, turns out one of my batteries had 2 cranking amps, the other had 400/880. Starts like a champ now.
Time for a new motor.
Can't decide what to do.
Option 1
Buy a $1200 long block and reassemble the tins and intake.
Option 2
Junkyard efi 460
Option 3
Have a 460 built.
I'm really leaning towards rebuilding the 400. I already have all of the accessories that will work for it, however, they aren't the best motors in the world and the power will be the least out of the three options. If I go this route I'll get rid of the nylon timing gear and put a bigger cam in it.
After seeing all the **** that carl's been through with the factory speed density efi, I really don't want to go that route. At the end of the day, i'm still using a jy motor that's probably been through some **** with 20 year old sensors and wiring harness.
Building a 460 would be sweet, but without a core, and having to buy tins, motor mounts and a intake, It'll be the most expensive option.
Options 1 and 3 will be getting aftermarket throttle body efi.
