I thought tacos were 8.4? Is that tundra/T100?
regardless, I'd want to keep things interchangeable if possible, and the IFS minitruck axle will be plenty strong
It is 8.4", the E-Locker Tacoma axles are 8"
weld it. you can still drive in town no prob...
5.29's came in for the rear of the Taco today. Axle and most front end components will be here tomorrow.
Your family employs someone who can set up a Ford 9" 3rd member...how much different is a Toyota 3rd?
that would be too logical
and too cheap :flipoff2:
fun times ahead...

they put it on the pallet w/ zip ties? Wow
Yeah, but those are really BIG zip ties. It's cool man.
:gigem:
If you're a joo like me, you'd save those big zip ties!
Wow, I mean normally I would make fun of you for something, but the zip ties, why, I mean, who would, I mean what the .......
Amazing!
Two steps ahead of you bud :D already saved them. The guy through everything on a pallet and tied it down with what looks like television cable and ginormous zip ties and the wrapped everything in plastic. I kept it tied down to the pallet and took it out to my parents place and unloaded it with the front end loader on their tractor, cool story I know.
threw
God dammit, I am not getting a very good return on my money here. Can I get a refund???
:flipoff2:
You have ~34 days, you gonna be able to get it done? :D
No I dont think I will be able to do it Ed. But I have a back up wheeling truck and will be there no matter what.
Question for the much more knowledgeable folks on the board. Are re-centered Humvee wheels with the Double Bead-lock worth a damn? What about the 8 Bolt Vs. the 12 Bolt? The guy on Pirate selling them can get me 4 re-centered with rock rings and PVC Inserts wrapped with those 37" Humvee tires for $1178 delivered. It seems like a good deal to me but I just want to ask?
The bias ply tires that come on the 8 bolts rims arent worth ****. When I was selling my bunch of rims I gave a couple sets of tires away because I didnt feel like disassembling the wheels. The 8 bolt wheels are designed to be used with the bias ply tires and can only hold ~35 PSI or so. The radial tires are better though. The 12 bolt wheels are stronger and designed for the radials, but IMO arent really necessary for what we do considering most wheelin tires are bias ply. Not factoring in labor, that price is a little steep. It is quite a bit of work recentering H1's but I only have ~$400 into mine, not including purchase price.
That's including the radial 37" tires not the bias plys and 120 bucks in freight. Let me see if I can find the thread and maybe ya'll can look at it a little more and tell me what you think.
It's this dood.

Hmm, his work looks solid but for $200 each I would go with Trailreadies.
If the tires are the 37", then they are probably the Goodyear Wrangler MT's. The bias were only 36".
That is ~300/tire, not far off what it will run you if you include your time as labor to do them your self.
Rim ~40
New Center ~40-75 (depending on pressed, flat or type of design)
Rock Ring ~45
Paint ~40
PVC runflat~40
Decent 37" Wheeling Tire ~50-15
That's close to 250/wheel&tire without labor. Deals can be found, and prices can fluctuate. If the tires are brand new (or real close) then it's a pretty good deal if shipping doesn't kill it.
I think it has been mentioned before, but the 8bolt rims are more than enough for what we do. We are not trying to run a 10,000lb truck out on the trails, and we aren't running tires up near the 35psi most of the time.
After lookin, Trailreadies are ~$300 each, plus tires so your deal might not be a bad idea after all. I thought they were cheaper.
Ok thanks guys for the input. I am in no rush to get this done, just probably going to buy wheels and tires by the end of the year.
Pressed over flat center unless you need to keep a deep backspacing.
yeah the quote above included Pressed centers also.
I recently purchased new inserts, o-rings, and other assorted items to rebuild my H1 rims and I bought it from 406 YJ. No problems and the inserts are beefy PVC. I run 8 bolts and my only leaking issues are more than likley due to me not greasing up the o-rings when I first put them together. My other issue was the ****ty inserts from USA6x6. One of them broke at K Rocks, causing me to debead a tire on Sunday.
Mounted/dismounting H1 rims is not fun. I took me about an hour per tire my first time and that was with a 12.50 tire. I am sure the wider tires are a bitch.
You would also want some sort of rock ring/rebar. Check Copperhead Fab for rock rings.
Ordered some 12 bolt beadlocks with PVC Inserts, rock rings, and 37" Radial Humvee Tires from 406YJ. I will post up pics when I get them.
Should look like this:

Decided today that a Lock Right Locker and 37's was a bad idea so I found a guy on pirate selling a Detroit for a Tacoma rear, should have that in the next week.
Also decided in Clayton that I really REALLY liked hippie's doubler in the ugly truck so I ordered me one from Marlin for the Taco. Fun times ahead. Can't wait to get this thing finished.
meant to ask you where the taco was this weekend...also should have let you drive uglytruck a little bit, I let brian drive it. I wouldn't worry about the lockrite; that was my second busted inner on mine, but if you got a good deal on the Detroit it's definitely a better option. Shock-loading will frag a detroit though, so you might wanna upgraydd those axles :D
I blew up my lock right in my front running 33x10.5's and the weak point was supposed to be the CV Axle. I hope the Detroit will be ok in the back if stuff breaks I will upgrade when it do, but as long as I am regearing the rear i might as well get a better locker in there.
4.7?
Yup. :D they were having a sale.
360*? didn't know they were available yet.
edit: looked up the price...:eek::eek::eek:
$1500 was 'on sale'
+$350 for the trans adapter
+$250-350 for skid/cross member
then triple drilled flanges, longfield output, etc
i would have looked into a used atlas, fawk that's a lot of money.
Lotta modification to get an atlas in a taco, I readand read and read. No adapter needed and I already had the cross member as part of my solid axle swap stuff from FROR. It is a lot of money I agree but it will be the easiest for me (and that is worth a lot for me, seeing as how I am a mechanic tard) and with the baby due In three weeks I need easy for the the mods on the truck.
Cool. I dont know **** about Yotas but thats alot of holes in the adapter.
holy hell are you trying to tell me I no longer have the coolest yota tcase in the club?
