I've actually changed something since I built it... It's been pretty good to me.
Since I broke off my Redneck ram on a trip in OK and then wheeled it without the ram in Cibolo and Katemcy - I broke some studs on my steering knuckle - I have decided to fix my hydo-assist problem.
I bought a new ram and installed it closer to the axle (mounted to the knuckle and not the tie rod). The tie rod has over 9" of travel and mounting a 8" stroke ram limits my steering if mounted to the tie rod. This should make my steering fasted also.
I also added some "Oh Shiit" grips for the passenger - cut up the handle bars from my old BMX bike and used those - all I have to do now is figure out a way to hook up the brake levers to a bell or something...
A few more additions and some touch-up on the paint and it should be ready for a wedding get-away limo:D
I will try to get some pics up by the end of the week
On a side note, I looked at the date of my last post since my first trip out (Spring Break). It's been a year and 4 days:eek:
fixing to redo the rear links...
teardown. Waiting on steel / rod ends...
If I have time before the OK trip I will redo the rear with tubing and dovetail the side fenders. :D
why are you tearing the 3-link apart?
too much rear steer, too much antisquat, It needs a change - almost been two years since I finished the buildQuote:

update:12-7-04
axle upper mount done. Frame upper mount done. Lower axle mount tacked in place, lower frame mount starts tonight. (I have to ro-do my entire tranny / x-fer case crossmember)
those look awsome
did you shoot those holes in there with a gun?
is this finished or is it still gonna get some bracing?
It's finished - and those holes are drilled out in the arc of the axle movement so that it will adjust properly. ie: I drilled them in an arc on purpose... :D
not trying to be an ass, but wouldn't it look cleaner with the holes drilled in a straight line and have an adjustable link instead of offset holes?Quote:

sorry, no pics
Booooooooo. :D C'mon you have that fancy almost new camera just begging to be used.Quote:

After that - all I have left is paint. I scrapped the idea of dovetailing it for this trip, that will have to wait. I think that I will leave the fenders off but zip tie the lights on so I can drive it on the street in Clayton :D
Dam scott that is pimp
what's the clearance btw upper mounts and bumper/rear xmember?
You sure those lower mounts on the axle are strong enough?
looks like you took care of the flex steer problem
I might add another brace down the back side,Quote:

The rear end might be done and look good but he is going to need his wife to pull him around the trailer since his engine sucks. Right now it will not start and when it does run only 3 of the 4 cylinders work. So even if the 3 good cylinders actually worked correctly most lawn mowers have more power then his engine.
3/4 aint bad...i think it only ran on two when it still had a toyota wrapped around it. why do you think he's got so much gear reduction? :flipoff2:
But now he can not keep it running unless he keeps his foot on the gas.
should make it easy to shut off when the PS bubbles over ;)
What a busy weekend...
clutch wasn't disengaging but the shift fork was moving. I thought that the slave cylinder wasn't moving it far enough.
First I blead the line - didn't work,
Next I welded a knob on the end of the slave cylinder shaft to make it longer - didn't work
Next - replaced slave cylinder - didn't work
Next - replaced clutch master cylinder - didn't work
Next - dropped tranny, removed clutch, inspected for problems, lubed up metal surfaces, and replaced throwout bearing. Put the tranny back in, then the truck wouldn't start.
It worked - tested it by using the starter to turn the tranny. I now turned my attention to getting it running...
1) I would fire and even rev up for a few seconds (if I put my foot on the gas), then die quickly. I looked everywhere for a wire or lug that I unlodged during my tranny R&R. Couldn't gind anyththing.
2) replace ECM with a spare I have - did the same thing
3) decided to try it without the computer - did the same thing...Hmmm...
4) found my EFI fuse that I have inside the dash was burnt out.
For future notice - it sucks putting a tranny back in completly by myself with one jack and only being able to jack with my feet. I got it done though, it just took alot longer that it normally would
It was now drivable and I was able to ramp it on the trailer to see where to put the shocks.
OK - what else did I get done? I notched the frame for link clearence and now the links hit each other when one side is fully compressed (not a big deal). Checked for air leaks (frame is the air tank). I also painted the open welds last night and tried to find a way to use the muffler I have. I changed the milky oil out of the tranny and t-cases. I noticed it was bad after drapping the tranny a time or two and it came spilling out of the top :gigem:
SO - it all seams to be working good now, I have to find an exhaust shop to redo the exhaust around my mess of links, bolt a bunch of stuff back, and find a way to mount the lights since I am leaving off my fenders.
Solo tranny installs blow. I thought I was going to drop mine on my head.
i'm just a phone call away. anytime. 2819232108Quote:

maybe the extra case adds a few pounds? :D
Dropped it off at the exhaust shop last night. Should have a spanking new exhaust after work (I tried to do it myself - that stuff should be left to those talented mexicans...)
so it actaully runs decent now?........no way! :flipoff2:
can't sleep nick
He considers 3 cylinders running good.
OK,
update after the Clayton trip - pictures of damage...
1) where my short was - on my original fuel pump wire grounding on the fuel cell.
2) some of the burnt wires from inside the dash
3) the broken welds in the lincoln locker
4) my new welds in the Lincoln locker (the current "spare" that I have in the truck will stay there, this is my new spare...)
i think it would be stonger if you put some more weld on it. :flipoff2:
wow! think it'll hold? :flipoff2:
been a while...
well, In preperation for the annual year end Clayton trip I ordered some new tires and some new front shafts!
I couldn't justify the $ for Krawlers so I just got 3 new SSR's to replace the two I tore and one worn one (have my good spare on the ground).
I also ordered some FJ-80 4340 front shafts from Dave at Polyperformance for $300 and 1 $300 FJ-80 4340 / CTM Birfield from Bobby Long to replace my popping right side.
I also ordered a new tranny mount from Toyota to replace my broken one.
I'm going to have to stay with the 37's and Toy axles for a while so I might as well make them strong...
Guess I had to spend some money on it sometime... :gigem:
