I never could find any info other than there is a rock climbing area there/nearby. Maybe Eric can update us on this.
any interest in spending a couple of days in buena vista and then heading to telluride/ouray area, there's alot of stuff out that way too. About 180 miles southwest of buena vista.
Just making suggestions, dont know if there is enough to keep us occupied around buena vista for 4 days, but ive never been there.
got brake controller and exhaust brake installed ready to go, this trip is going to be awesome
Are we sure carnage canyon is open? I keep finding tidbits that say it's closed.
EDIT: Looks like it must have opened up in april sometime?
Not sure on the elevations in that area, but I have gone to CO in mid June before and snow is still blocking alot of the trails....might check to see what is really open.
whats the leave date on this thing?
Ed, if you get the speed brake, let me know and ill get it put in. mom got one for her 08 and its bad ass
Those of us driving plan to leave out on the morning of the 2nd. Creighton and I are planning on camping/stopping in Amarillo for the night and finish the drive in on Wednesday and hopefully get some wheeling in on that day. We are going to try to leave out on Sunday morning so everyone can get home in time to get to work on Monday morning. As of now on Tuesday morning, Jerry is going to be leaving from Aggieland , I will be leaving from Rosebud/the ranch, and Creighton is going to head down to Hutto to pick up Curry's Yota and leave from there. We will try to meet up in Waco or Ft. Worth and convoy up from there.
Those flyin in are coming in on the 4th (Thursday) and flying back out on Sunday evening.
I updated the first post with all the info I could find.

I took JB off the towing list until he can confirm one way or the other (either way we are set on towing needs )
David, just need confirmation of wether you are flying or not.
Is there anyone else I am missing that might be going up with us?
Whoa, Whoa, stop in amarillo? Poosies! Im gonna stop and get me some of that horny goat weed and keep on truckin'! I was planning on rolling out on tues at 5 or 6 AM.
But seriously depending on how i feel i may keep going, plus krebs can always take the wheel. We'll see, i didnt realize creighton had to goto Hutto.
I havent heard anything out of lu, unless hippie has. Jones is interested. Only problem is if Jones, krebs, and j all go, I'll have 5 in the truck counting JB until we meet up.
How many rigs do we have to fork around with on wed afternoon/thurs? We arent going all the way to denver and coming back are we?
Is curry riding or flying?
DaveO you should ride and then we have more rigs to wheel on wed and thurs.:gigem:
I can meet yall over on 6 in Marlin if needed to grab some passangers.
Curry is already living up in those parts, I don't know when he will be joining us.
We will have all the rigs available because I aint loadin one up w/ out keys to it. ;)
Creighton and me will be the actual only owners of rigs on the trip up (unless John comes), but I am sure we can weasle the use of a couple of rigs. :D

Looks like we may be in luck, according to this they havent had much snow out that way this year so hopefully it will be nice and thawed out.
i thought everybody was planning to roll in on thursday night??
wish i would have known this i would have just come in earlier. not a big deal.
if you guys are already going to be down in wheelin territory i say that those of us flying in just catch a ride with eric down thursday night, that way friday morning we are ready to go.
i dont see the point in you guys pulling 3 huge trailers up to denver for no reason.... plus there is no way 1 trailer could even park at erics house... maybe even fit down the street.
If I went, (doubtful) I would have to fly up Wednesday night, and let someone haul Bronco there and back.
I think you are a little optimistic on leaving Amarillo in the morning and wheeling that afternoon.
If you drive straight through, hauling that heavy, I would really plan on 20-22 hours. Thats alot of driving. I have driven to CO alot. It is about 17 hours with a group of 4+ people in a car from CS to SW CO. BV is farther, but you get to stay on 25 for a while.
I bet 9-10 hours from Amarillo to Colo Springs.
Got motel 6's in Trinidad?
That's where I'm thinking I'll stop on day 1.
edit: I like this idea. It 750 miles from CS so even at 60 mph that's 12.5 hrs. So 14 probably worst case. Get up around 7ish. save the pretty part of the drive for the morning, roll into BV a little after lunch.
10 sounds right from amarillo to CO
Raton, NM seems to have cheaper hotel rooms than Trinidad.
$45.99/night at the no-tell motel 6.
No Motel 6, but there is a Super 8((719) 846-8280), Holiday Inn ((719) 846-4491), Best Western(719) 846-2215), and Budget Host((719) 846-3307).
The Best Western is the one in the middle of town, Super 8 on the north side, and the other two on the south.
There is a Marriot there too, but I am sure us pulling in with the three tow rigs would go over like a sh!t sandwich in the pot luck after church...
Buena Vista is off highway 24... you know what else is off highway 24...
i dont think we will have trailer room to bring it home
Looks like I'm riding with you Creighton, where did you plan on leaving from? I'm going to have to drive down from Kerrville to meet ya'll anyway so just let me know
Coop, we are leaving Curry's yota up there, so we will definitely have room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
ahh sweetness! I know what we are going to do on sat, once everyone breaks their rigs on fri. Load up coops new rat rod!:gigem:
I say we head all the way upto pueblo and cut over on 50. Canon City is where Royal Gorge (I'm surprised they named it that, I thought karl's mom had that name trademarked ...eww!) is, should be pretty country, looks like some windy ass roads, i'll do some investigating.
edit: blah, nevermind looks lame.
maybe upto colorado springs and over there is a bunch of national forest over there and some passes i think.
ok probably better, if i was in a car with no trailer i'd probably head to co springs but with the bigass trailers 50 is prob better. google shows 50 to be a major thoroughfare all the way to ocean city, md!?! 2 lane road will be nice when i need to pass your turd uphill:flipoff2:
