Somehow I thought the tubing we had up at our shop had a smaller ID... Well no bueno, it's ID is too big.
Who ordered the tierod material so you can use a tap?

I do but it is going to cost you $.60 and inch
and you can tap my stuff at the same time
you mean as a trade for it? Or tap it in addition to buying it?Quote:

You realize it sucks to tap it right? It takes a decent amount of time, plus my taps...Quote:

P.S. What material do you have anyways?
how bad is taping it, I am sure we can work something out.
The material that I have is an A513/5 1020 DOM 1.50x.375
Well it's fine thread...
So basically I chuck it up in the lathe and face it off. That takes all of 60 seconds. Then depending on how deep you want it, I sit there with a crescent wrench and tap it by hand using the tailstock to hold the tap concentric.
It just takes a while, probably 15-20 minutes a hole, depending on depth. Ask Brian Ritchey or Robert Sharpe, I'm not sure I've let anyone else do it. I think I let Garrett have fun also.
let me see, Ill give you the tube for $15 if you tap mine as well
And all this just costs you time since the school owns all this equipment. JEWQuote:

Use a ton of tap magic or similar lube on the tap and run coolant on the outside of the material.

Just single tool the fawker with a boring bar.
Hi, I pay for taps! Thats why I let people come in and do it if they want and I don't charge them to use the machine.Quote:
