looks like a pretty low COG there Dave O .... coo...
:D :D
That's the idea. As little lift as possible to fit the meats. We'll see how it's looking once the tub gets set on there.
Poly mounts will be in the mail tomorrow, here by the weekend (with any luck). The clutch came in today. The flywheel is done. The drivetrain is about ready for some fitting.
I'm still looking for the illusive D60 front or matching 1 ton set. I'm getting close to just jumping on one of the few that I've narrowed it down to.
The D44 wasn't even close to bolting up. I didn't want to torch off the arms just for temp fitting. This pushes up the need for an axle. We'll see what happens.

I'm still hunting you one...there are alot of bum steers out here... Hell most of my D60 leads for a Ford turn up dry too... made a profit on selling one, and now i wish I'd kept it for the EB... can't seem to find another one...

right now the frame sits at about waist level....it is far from low at this point....i would suspect that it will drop about 3-4" with all the weight on it....not sure though...
it is on 42 INCH SWAMPERS, I think "low" is a relative term at this point...
Yeah, but you gotta realize, waist high for Dave means about knee high for the rest of us.
your very first post was a cheap shot at dave? Good Form! (golf clap)
Hey, at least I've hit puberty. http://offroadrepublic.com/fj40/pics...-thefinger.gif http://offroadrepublic.com/fj40/pics...-thefinger.gif
Actually, it's almost chest height for me, the conversion factor has already been assesed.

that was a tight post by Burbach...
Thank you Mr. Padder.

Got the engine set in and the tub on this weekend.

Don't worry about trimming the fenders, those are "self clearancing" tires...
you would think that....but one time of that tire getting stuffed into the sharp sheet metal, and there goes one 42" Tsl....i think he is definatly going to have to cut it further back. He has about a 90* departure angle....
More progress this weekend. A big thanks to Flem for coming down and helping out.

NICE... those 60 hubs stick out of thjose hummer rims alot...you going to try and run some spacers or something?
The front hoop and fender things look fanking nice. KISS and I bet that thing will look forking fine.
They look like it from that angle but they really don't stick out that far. I'll get a shot of it tonight. I'm not going to worry about it for now.
DAVID!
SLOW DOWN! You are making me look bad, it is looking way too real!
Good work-keep it going, just go slower so I can catch up!
You? I don't even have all the parts for my junk yet!
The FJ is looking quite nice, by the way.
Yeah, well don't get too wound up. The shack's walls are up, but it still doesn't have power or indoor plumbing. :D
your gonna put plumming in the FJ-Fawty....hmmm....never thought of having a shatter in there....http://offroadrepublic.com/fj40/pics...-thefinger.gifhttp://offroadrepublic.com/fj40/pics...-thefinger.gifhttp://offroadrepublic.com/fj40/pics...-thefinger.gifhttp://offroadrepublic.com/fj40/pics...-thefinger.gifhttp://offroadrepublic.com/fj40/pics...-thefinger.gif
He can work it in right under the driver's seat.
He'll need it there if he does any driving on the trail...
probably in the passenger seat too
Here's some more pics:
Here's what the approach is looking like:

Here's a shot of the body mount that I want to cut off and move towards the frame. Also the lip under the floor that will be removed.

Here's three shots of the front hub. Not as bad as I thought it would be (but not that great either). This would fall under the category of "sacrifices". If called to duty, the hubs just might have to take one for the team:

I can tell Robert has been helping you... nice jackstand support to the fender bar... where's the vice grips? :D
BTW the hub DOESN"T look as bad as I thought at first... hope it works out allright.
hey now, i had nothing to do with that one :D
I just show up to bitch about how much griding the perches off a 14 bolt SUCKS!!!
That's what the gas axe is for! Either that, or you need a real grinder.
they were cast spring perches, not the stamped steal ones that everyone else uses. I'd imagine its the same PITA that taking of the radius arm nubs on a ford axle would be
For all practical purposes, the spring perches were SOLID. I got most of it off with the torch but I didn't want to leave that heat on it for the time that it would have taken to really get it down close. I also didn't want to screw up and cut into the tube. It took about 5 - 10 minutes straight with the torch, then about 30 - 45 with the grinder. May not seem that long, but that's a lot of heat and a lot of vibrations. I FELT like an old man when I woke up Monday. I do have a REAL grinder fag, FYI it's the most powerful one that DeWalt makes in that size. The crap I have to put up with.
As for the jack stand, that was actually proping up the weight of the hood when I was putting the bars together. I just haven't taken it out. Notice that it's sitting on the alternator bracket (on the drivers side) and you can't see the top. If Rob would have been there, I wouldn't have had to rig it like that. But that's the way it goes when you're working on it by yourself. It sucks.
Next thing you know, you ass clowns are going to be complaining about how dirty my garage is.

Now that you mention it...:DQuote:

Should get them bolted up this weekend. ~dso
Here's the clocking that Mark and I did last weekend. Hopefully I'll get the cross member finished this weekend also.
~dso
from that pic it looks like the rear driveline is going to be about 4 inches long, schweet!!:D :D
Good Sunday. Some hard decisions were made this weekend. As some of the progress can't easily be reversed.
Spring pins flipped. Ubolts installed on front and rear. Steering arms installed. Engine located and tacked in. Rear crossmember invented/fabricated/welded/bolted in/painted. Rear axle perches welded on.
