So I've got an Aussie locker that wants to be part of the Halloween trip in my Dana 30. Who wants to help install it? I also have some tow hooks and may get some shackles for proper recovery points- that need to be installed. Any takers?

Do you know what your doing or are you looking to learn? That can be a fair amount of work so offering adult refreshments might net some more help. Post up your rig in the project forum to let people get an idea of what you are working with.
Also come to the meeting this Wednesday, I might be able to open my shop up for a day and demonstrate proper recover points and or offer some ideas.
I've never cracked the seal on a differential housing but I have seen it done, that being said, I'm really looking to learn and make sure it's done right. Of course I will be offering refreshments to those willing to help out! Ill also bring a can of raid.
Aussies are pretty much drop in, shouldn't be too hard.
installing an Aussie in a dana 30 is not to tough however you do have to remove the ring gear from the carrier to install the locker.
You just need to make sure that you make the ring gear in relation to the carrier and install it in the same position.
you will need to get a roll pin punch to remove the roll pin that hold the center pin in place it is only a couple of bucks at Harbor freight.
other than that the only special tools you will need are a torque wrench, rubber malet or dead blow, and some red locktite for the ring gear bolts (they will back out if you don't put red locktite on them)
If you need anything else just let me know I have a full factory service manual for the TJ
I have plenty of space and tools, but never installed a locker. Yall let me know. Ill be out there this weekend.
Be careful with those stupid little springs. They like to fly towards the most cluttered corner of the garage.
aussie should be a pretty easy install for even a beginner. with a little supervision you could do it all by yourself
i also have one for sale if anyone else needs one
Follow Tate's lead and just weld that bitch up.
my front wasnt welded... just the rear.. and i have full detroits front and rear in my real axles
and you tore the ears off the front in clayton on stockish tires. speaking of, did you buy a skid plate for the oil pan? or you figure your high enough up now?
I say install the lockah and hammer on it!
i actually need a new oil pan actually
all this work and you never bought a new oil pan?
i patched it a couple times... has not held... plus it is atleast a quart smaller now
if i was in town i would help, but i wont be
sam you better find a tire for your trailer for alto
you can find used car tires for $25 anywhere in town. I'd buy 3 or 4 of them just in case. buying trailer tires for a trailer is just absurd!
dont use used 'car' tires, they dont have the load rating for a trailer, but i dont see any reason not to use a used truck tire if a true trailer tire is out of the question money wise
like tyler said make sure to carry a spare, and you might be able to find some tires on craigslist cheap
build thread now! between eric and I (while we are still on), along with faggie, we can help you with whatever you need.
gonna be hard to find a truck tire in the 205-225 variety suit for his use. any meskin shop will get you 4 new trailer tires for $300 cash out the door.
afaik any dana 30 lunchbox locker will work in any d30 cause they are all the same spline count despite hp or lp
If we are doing this at Travis's house, and anyone wants to come help me out with my fourwheel drive on buckwheat, that would be great
do you know whats wrong with it. how is your thermo coupler or whatever they call it
